Re: Uninsured builder and mason
Vinnie, This topic seems to be being added to rapidly since the second reply was added while I was considering a response. I don't disagree with either Big Dog or pita3333. I'm not familiar with the NJ Construcion Contractor requirements but in Oregon they are required to have both Liability Insuran...

Re: E&O Coverage
Steve32, I've been with Employers' Re/Westport since 1989. That's the year I went I/A after being encumbered with Farmers Insurance Group. I've had two claims with them, one in '92 and the other in '98 and been satisfied at how they both handled and paid the claims. RE: mhutch69's comment, I got the...

Re: Farmers Commercial Auto
Chances are that the Farmers agent quoted the commercial auto wrong. When the policy issues it will come back with an up rated premium. I would ask the client if you can take a look at the Farmers quote to make sure it is rated correctly. This agent is probably a newbie . [/u] What would lead you t...

Re: Are directors of a non-profit corporation at risk?
An additional, and probably the primary reason, for the no-profit to carry D&O insurance is becauses if the director is sued INDIVIDUALLY for his action the G/L will not cover him. As noted by Santa Rosa Ins Broker there are also areas that can generate a law suit that would also not be covered ...

Re: Anyone else sick of this Michael Jans clown?
OK, I keep getting spam from this idiot, touting his spam operations targeting insurance agents. His web site has the following in the Frequently Asked Questions: Question #2: Is this spam? Answer: Absolutely NOT. Our list has been carefully compiled from subscribers, partners and joint venture ass...

Re: Captive Agent wants to have wife open an IA.
I am a captive agent with a large company. I have around 6,000 PIF , but am feeling that the end if near with the company I am with. I plan on hanging on as long as I can, but I want my wife to open an IA in the meantime. I can't be an active participant in any agency outside of my company, but I w...

Re: American Family
Thanks to all for the feedback. I am in Ohio, and they (AMFAM) are willing to set me up with 600 policies, and many other perks. The commission structure is higher than State Farm, and Allstate, but I am concerned with the name recognition. I am for sure going to start with one of them, ( Except Fa...

Re: Farmers Insurance
You can tell.... What does everyone think about the new announcment that they are creating an Independent market that will be branded under the Foremost brand ? I bet they have a competitive rate when they have to compete in an Independent Agency. ...........I bet Zurich sits back and can't believe...

Re: Farmers Insurance
Farmersgirl,..... As a Farmers agent, you do not own your policies. As an IA, you DO own your policies. This is a huge difference, of Biblical proportions, that most new captive agents do not understand. In the IA world, your "contract value" on these policies is worth 2x to 3x the annual...

Re: Risk Retention Groups
RRGs are a valuable source of capacity in a shrinking market ruled by megolomaniac CEOs who feel they can dictate when the market changes and criticize companies in a stronger financial position than themselves. WOW! Seems someone has an axe to grind![/ quote] I don't think that it is an axe being ...

Re: Filing Bankruptcy as an Insurance agent
lessonlearned, I started out life with Farmers Insurance Group in 1982. I left them in 1989. I would be careful because, while their contract does (or at least did in 1984) give only 5 reasons that they didn't have to pay you to leave, it still allows them to terminate with only a 90 day written not...

Re: Farmers Insurance
I'm not sweating..... There latest gimmick is to recruit as many new agents as possible because the current agency force cannot give there overpriced products away at this point, so they need new carrot chasers. I will say to think that this will be the last set rate increases, is like thinking tha...

Re: Farmers vs. Independent
.... I've been with Farmers 18+ years and have not experienced the growth that I would like due to a lot of factors.... The one thing that holds me back is the instability of the industry. You don't know which companies are going to declare bankruptcy yet. The broker's have had an advantage for the...

Re: Looking at Farmer's
The Farmer's DM is ready to go after one interview so it fits that he just wants quality reps out there if they work out great, if not, then what the hell, no skin off his nose. I would be an independent agent, not an employee. But consider, I am a complete insurance novice. If I work for an indepe...
