Re: Out of State License Requirements

I agree that this would generally apply to the residual market because I would not have a direct appointment with any of my General agents or any of the secondary market companies. However with companies I hold an appointment with, I have been able to add locations in states other than my own as lon...

Re: Out of State License Requirements

My understanding on this is that, as long as the policy is constructed in the state that you are licensed in and the insurance company you are appointed by is licensed in the state that the property is located in that you do not need to be licensed in the state the property is located in. The key is...

Re: Is the independent insurance agency channel healthy?

I think that part of the answer is in educating our customers on some of our benefits and some or the changes that have taken place on premiums i.e. Credit Scoring. I recently lost a policy holder I've known since before I became an agent 37 years ago. Several years ago I replaced his Farmers policy...

Re: New Agent to be

bvstewart, I began my career over thirty-five years ago in 1982. I first appointed with Farmers Insurance Group whom I left in 1989 to become Independent. The reasons I became Independent was that there were many times that Farmers and I agreed to disagree . Overall it has been a rewarding career fo...

Re: The "1 year rule"

I would imagine that if you are searching/applying for a position in the same market area, that other agencies may be aware of your current agencies staffing/training practices. My recommendation is to apply at an agency and in your interview make them aware of your reasons for. Since it sounds like...

Re: Farmers Agent received 90 day notice Ca

I've given a bit of thought to this regarding my current book of business and the experiences I've had with carriers I've lost. The concept is that if I either cancel an appointment or have the appointment cancelled by the company, that I own the renewals and the company will non-renew the customer ...

Re: Need advise here regarding GEICO refusal to pay claim!

While I agree with all of the above comments I'm not really adding anything except that I feel and have felt for some time, that it is appropriate that GEICO's mascot is a lizard! I'm sorry if this is too sarcastic.

Re: Farmers Agent received 90 day notice Ca

lonestar, I didn't mean to imply that I 'owned' my FIG renewals. What I did own were my renewals with companies outside of Farmer, i.e. Progressive, CBIC, Viking and Red Shield. Those were the commissions I was referring to. My 'Contract Value' was paid out over 18 months in three installments. If I...

Re: Farmers Agent received 90 day notice Ca

You might want to check out this I/J topic "Farmers - your opinion". Below is a post that I made about their hiring and termination practices. I was a Farmers gent for 7 years, from February '82 to February '89. At that time we were able to have appointments outside of Farmers so I had som...

Re: Farmers - your opinion

I started out life with the Farmers Insurance Group company lies before going I/A. As an Insurance company they do an adequate job. If only their management could be trained to be truthful. I had so many lies told to me by the management team that I can't believe that it is not company policy. In m...

Re: Banks - Unfair Trade Practices

You are correct. FDIC Rule § 343.30 Prohibited practices (a) Anticoercion and antitying rules. You may not engage in any practice that would lead a consumer to believe that an extension of credit, in violation of section 106(b) of the Bank Holding Company Act Amendments of 1970 (12 U.S.C. 1972), is ...

Re: Market Research Q: Can Agents Sell Non-Insurance Product

My question is, can agents sell non-insurance products? We're looking at a similar residual commission strategy already, so conceptually it would appear to be a good fit. But I don't know if this is even possible. I'd appreciate your thoughts/comments/feedback on this. Thanks - Dennis Fassett Denni...

Re: reinsurance company

I'm not really sure I understand your question. In reading it, it sounds like you may be an insurance agent and need to have an Errors & Omissions policy. It also sounds like you may be either a manufacturer or a wholesaler. In that case you would need a Business Owners Package Insurance policy,...

I originally posted to this thread in May 2009. Seeing that it's active again I decided to post on it again with an update of my opinions and suggestions. I am currently sill using TAM v10.7 which is what I was on when the monthly maintenance expense got out of control. I've since looked at Hawksoft...

Re: 1st Year as a Producer Stories

I do agree with lonestar , the people that pay attention to the designations are not the general public. jtownagent is also correct you do HAVE to like this business. On getting the designation it's not the designation it's the KNOWLEDGE that makes you the money. The CIC would not be a good first st...
