Re: How Often to Bid

I have an agent locally that is required by the agency owner to market every account every year, to at least 4 different places. This particular retailer will not give anyone last look, even incumbents. I wrote a risk that I lost and they told me someone else was cheaper, so they moved it. When I as...

Re: Looking for MGA Info

that's not something we typically divulge, but I wouldn't call it an override. We get paid XX% commission when we write something. We pay the agent a commission and keep the rest for ourselves.

AND, it is important to point out that the commission paid by our markets varies.

if the other carriers are not able to offer the form required, then it doesn't really matter what their premium is. As an underwriter, I get really tired of agents calling me and throwing cheaper quotes in my face when they don't offer the same coverage. IF the CNA deal is the only one that offers t...

Whatever you do, don't throw out a number as low as $20k. You won't get it placed anywhere near that unless he has just 2 or 3 units. Many markets that will do this might have a minimum premium higher than that. Do you know how many RV's he plans to have? What type and lengths? Approximate values? E...

I don't know of any markets, but you want to find someone that will write tattoo artists. It's the same thing.

How is the Allstate exclusion worded? The building and commercial activities are not covered by Allstate, but the cubscout meetings are personal activities held on the homeowners premises (address listed on the Homeowners policy). I would think that Allstate would have a hard time denying premises l...

I would say that it depends. What is the occurrence? Use the example of the recent metal shavings in acetaminaphin (I know I butchered the spelling, but you get the point). Was the occurrence when the people took the medicine, or was the occurrence when the equipment malfunctioned and put the shavin...

speaking as an underwriter - any time not spent underwriting should be spent chasing more business to underwrite. I peruse the forum every day when the IJ arrives via e-mail, but other than that 5 minutes, who has time to spend "chatting"? Pick up the phone and chat up someone that will se...

I think you will find that the internet based products will generally be cheaper, but the coverage form will be VERY restrictive (but, there is a place for everything). I would say it would be in your best interest (and in my view a professional obligation) to offer both to your client and point out...

I might have been misunderstood. CPCU, ARM, CIC, ACSR, etc. are all worthy designations, and obtaining them should be encouraged. I can say that I've never met a CPCU that wasn't top notch. ACSR and CIC are a little easier to obtain, and I've met a few that are a little suspect, but that's a story f...

I'm a P&C Underwriter. Honestly, when I deal with an agent, I don't care what initials they have behind their name. An idiot is an idiot, and a good agent/CSR is a good agent/CSR, regardless of what designations they have. Do your job, do it well, and send me a good submission, and I promise you...

I have to agree with kmochel. We've been paperless for a while. We've gone from single sheet to the flatbed jobs with paper feeders, and finally to the copier/printer/scanner that interfaces with the network. It costs some money, but everything else is a waste of time and money. I have to believe th...

Might I suggest that you place coverage with your church program for everything except the wind. For the windstorm perils, you can go through ICAT. They are an admitted market with competitive rates (provided your risk is tier 1 or tier 2). Quite honestly, aside from the Texas Windstorm pool and the...
