Most carrier contracts will require a minimum premium volume of at least $100,000 and many will be in the $250,000 to $500,000 range before you will be eligible for Profit Sharing/Contingency payments. In general, once you reach that level (usually in Earned Premium not Written) you become eligible,...

I am in East Tennessee, city of 60,000. CSR compensation (not including bonus) averages $30,000 plus benefits. I also pay 20% of first year commission on new policies written, however I pay 35% commission on additional (account rounded) policies. I have no turnover, and all of my CSRs have CISR desi...

Pricing varies depending on the number of users, and the AMS services you are purchasing (Imaging, PS4, etc) but seems to run anywhere from $125 per user to around $90 per user.

Lots of good comments. I sometimes pick up a new account that has been accustomed to "bidding" every year (seems to happen more with contractors because they live in a bidding world), and will often have to survive a couple of years of competition at renewal. However, a good agent will beg...

Personal Lines CSRs are paid 20% on new business commission (first year only). Same for Commercial Lines CSRs. Commercial Lines P & C Producers (supported by a CSR) are paid a salary for the first 5 years, plus 30% commission on new business (first year only). After 5 years, the C/L Producer com...

From the description of your prospecting activity (doorhangers, etc.) it sounds like you are doing Personal Lines production. Not a bad place to "cut your teeth", but you need to jump to Commercial Lines as soon as you can, if you want more challenging work, and more money.

Sounds like your company's compensation is slightly better than average. Curious about your name "Volstrike3". I'm from Tennessee, so anything with "vol" in it usually designates a Univ of Tenn fan. Are you?

A commercial book of business will usually average around 12% commission, so you're looking at around $240,000 commission for the agency, on average. My producers get 35% of that, with no base - so $84,000. I offer a base salary for the first 3 years or so, just to supplement their income until they...

I continue to be amazed at the ignorance of some people. Average agency revenue of $100,000 has nothing to do with how much money a Producer or Owner is making. If an agency has $500,000 revenue, with one Owner/Producer, 3 CSRs and a Receptionist, it has average Revenue Per Person of $100,000. The O...

Very few agencies would have revenue of $200,000. Probably less than 10%. Industry average is around $100,000.

This type of info is readily available from The Academy of Producer Insurance Studies (http://www.scic.com). Numbers vary depending on region and agency size. Based on your premium size $6 million, I would expect commission revenue is around $750,000. Your P/L book should require around 3 full time ...

Applied and AMS are both still utilizing old school platforms. I am an AMS Afw client for 10 year, but will be taking a long hard look at NexSure (X Dimensional Technologies is the vendor) before upgrading. From all I have heard, NexSure will knock the socks off of any other system out there right n...

MNDAVE, your commission split is not a bad one, but you mention a small salary for managing the agency. That does not sound right. The industry average is that an agency should be spending 5% of it's commission revenue as compensation for management. So, if your salary is less than 5% of your agency...

Good arguments on either side. But, with a small agency and limited markets, you will also have limited income. I have worked for large brokers (Aon, Marsh) and have also had my own agency (took a $2 million premium agency to $20 million over the last 15 years). So, I have seen this problem from all...
