Re: Want to buy independent insurance agency
Mightyquinn, where you from? When I bought my agency it had only 800K in premium, mostly with Safeco. We had carriers seeking us out. We are now the regional AARP Hartford rep, regular Hartford, Travelers, Grange, Progressive, the list goes on. I feel pretty confident that Stebbs will do well with a...

Re: how should i compensate my producers?
If you're going to be in business... be in business. there is nothing worse than the agent that wants to grow the book but is unwilling to spend the money for employee benefits and payroll taxes. You say you want to save money... then don't open an agency with 1099 sub-contractors! They will not be ...

Re: Incentives for Clients
Why don't you try offering something of real value like risk management, loss control consultation, perhaps a plan that will pay dividends and a whole host of "Value Added" ideas that will set you apart from the other guys that simply offer a quote... If you live by price alone you may as ...

Re: PA - Log Home with Farm Animals
I'd look at some of the preferred carrier commercial farm policies. I would quote this with Safeco (Liberty Mutual) if it was out west... the farm policy will ACV and named-peril the outbuildings but allow for RCV on the primary residence. Not sure what is available in your state... Wayne Lunday, LU...

4-H & FFA group
Hi ya'll! I have been tasked by our local 4-H & FFA groups to find a CGL coverage for their activities. They have had coverage through the local county for the past, but this year due to budget constraints the county has cut them out of their coverage program. Here's the scoop... Officially know...

WA Restaurant / B&B in Historic home
I'm working with a good friend that owns and operates a very nice, upscale restaurant with a 3-room B&B as part of the business. Washington state. Besides the full-time restaurant they do weddings, reunions, etc... The catch is that the place is on the historic registery. It has been updated, pl...

Re: Frustrated Georgia Agent
Hey William, Has this partner earned any type of professional designation? If so, he will be bound by a code of ethics. Bring this to his attention. Shady and immoral business practices by a few make it harder for all of us. If he won't change his spots, buy him out and get rid of him, even if he is...

Now that you are committed to the life and health business as well as the P/C... Join NAIFA and sign up for an LUTC course. These courses are in-depth, on-the-job training and will work very well with any other formal training you'll get from NYLIC or any other carrier. In fact, most of the good age...

Re: Anyone else sick of this Michael Jans clown?
Hey Go Red Sox, d's makes a lot of good points. I've been a member of QC for a year now, and my little agency has done just fine implementing bits and pieces of the Quantum Club's advice. No where close to all of it... just the parts that work for me and that I can afford ant that fit my personal bu...

I say... go for it. Find a well respected owner, over age 55, with a small to medium (under $1,000,000 in revenue) independent agency. Ask for a job. Sell yourself and be up front and tell him/her about your ambitions to be an agency owner. Then, if you are hired spend some time to see how the perso...

Re: AZ Newbie help
Sacman has some good advice on the income side of the business. One thing I might recommend to anyone new to the life side is to place all of the commissions you earn into one checking account and draw only 10% weekly against it. Let it continue to build, and at the end of each week draw only 10% of...
Re: Az newbie
Lobo, kevinraz is right... find a great spot in which to learn... and then expect to find steps up the career ladder as you go forward. Many people do quite well in niche markets with the captive carriers, others are always looking for a bigger ship to captain... as you go forward, take as many indu...
