Great
Excellent post, LadyBroker. Only one last thing: some carriers [e.g. Landmark, Mt Hawley] don't want copies of certificates of insurance. Ignore that and send them to the carrier or your wholesaler anyway. If a certificate is issued incorrectly and you do not catch it, then its the carrier's respons...

Tell Me More
Doies your developer own a real estate agency that sells the homes that he builds? If so talk with the Herbert Landy Agency outside of Boston. They have a General Star program that is excellent. Colony also writes this type of situation but their policy is not as broad. They are all CM form but Land...

Roofers WC - CA
The only WorkComp market in CA for roofers is the State Fund.
Others might tell you there are other markets and there could be but the State Fund is the only market writing them.

MGA's & Wholesalers
Many, if not most, large wholesalers have either internal or related MGA's. That way your wholesale broker can handle all size accounts. If he/she receives your account and its a small premium issue, he/she will send it to their inhouse underwriters to quote. Using a free-standing, non-wholesale MGA...

They try
...but then they've been trying for years. Its about time that they get it right.
Seriously, given the choice between another MGA and Superior Access, I'll take the other MGA every time.

Gateway is B+, 5
The theory about "B" rated carriers is that their writings usually do not exceed their policyholder surplus because "A" carriers are preferred. The policyholder surplus is the claims paying ability of the carrier. Ultimately, unless the carrier has a niche that "A" marke...

CArrier?
Trotter, which insurer are you dealing with here? It could be one of those E&S carriers who have a limit to which they will go with the breadth of AI's. However, if the insurer is a risk retention group or one of the E&S carriers who have limits, you should change carriers if this is an issu...

Watch out for HBW --- BE CAREFUL!!!
HBW is still out there. They have found a new patsy in the new Banc of America syndicate [Pembrace - #1212] and are now doing wraps for condos and tracts at prices that again are way way way too cheap and which will cause another crash in a couple of years. The Banc of America syndicate was original...

Think about it
If the prior coverage was Occurrence that is where the liability resides. You do not think of purchasing a tail unless that cover was Claims Made and that is now moot with the intervening time. The reason all homebuilder markets [incl RRG's] exclude prior completed work is because they will not get ...

Need some minor details
What state are you in? What state is the insured domiciled in? From where is he importing the product[s]? Is he the sole importer [no one between him and the foreign mfr] or is there a middleman in the US through which the product moves to him? If so, is that middleman owned by the foreign mfr? Is t...

The solution is not rocket science
The off site issue is only an issue when the insured has a product that they prepare or fabricate on a site away from the wrap project site. Usually that premises is the insured's shop. When they fab a product in their shop that they install in a wrap, the AI should only be of the ongoing ops variet...
Mom Driving
Also look for "resident relatives" in the definitions of permitted drivers. If Mom lives on her own apart from him in a separate residence, that alone would disqualify her.

Commercial business
Yours is a pretty common plight as there are so many small to medium size shops out there who just cannot provide the massive amounts of business that many standard commercial carriers require to contract with them. For commercial lines, most producers like you work with wholesalers who have both ad...
