Re: musicians - IN

If your band needs convincing that liability insurance is required refer them to the Great White performance in Rhode Island. With 100 fans dead, and hardly any insurance in place, this destroyed many lives: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Station_nightclub_fire Although this is a Christian band an...

Re: Less than two weeks left!

BJ, You have done all you can do by putting in this time and effort. You should do fine on the exam. Yes, the Education Objectives do steer you toward the important issues of the exam. Just don't let the test anxiety get to you.

Best of luck. This is a tough long endeavor.

Re: CPCU classes vs. CLU classes

I received my CLU in 1988 and my CPCU in 1998. I could only transfer Economics at that time so had to take 10 CLU and 9 CPCU exams. The format was the same--read, read, read, take notes, condense the notes and read them over (AND over) until you took the exams. You should do fine. Karen Jamison, CLU...

Re: CPCU 530 Multiple Choice

Yes, TRacer, I too have multiple desigations (some I just let go because I could not keep up with all of the CE requirements). I have 40 years in the field, 6 active designations and a Masters degree--I think "overqualified" is the problem although I am not looking for a huge salary by any...

Re: CPCU 530 Multiple Choice

Stop picking on CPCU candidates for just trying to pass the exams. If CPCU really helped you with getting positions I could understand arguing the point that one should not study just to pass the CPCU exams. Sadly, my experience is that the knowledge gained by memorizing all aspects of each CPCU seg...

Re: CPCU - complete 12-18 months?

Hi Joel, most of the people who would have the correct info at AICPCU are at the convention in Denver so it might not be the best time to ask questions on the exams/scoring. Better wait until next week when the CSR has somewhere to transfer the call for the real answer. I was just glad to get the pa...

Re: Looking to buy used CPCU study materials

One of Bill Cosby's old comedy routines started out with "When I graduated from college I went into the service because all of the drop outs had the jobs." I am finding that niche experience outweights all of my alphabet soup (CPCU, CLU, CIC, Masters degree). I took considerable time and e...

Re: CPCU 510 woes

Hi Joe, don't be discouraged. I started and stopped my CPCU studies so many times it took me ten years to get my designation (you don't need to get into that depressed state!!!). The CPCU information is intense and sometimes you have to dissect it into your own words. The flash card idea is ok but y...

Re: CRM Courses, OK to take Control of Risk first

I am not taking the CRM exams but am using the courses for my CIC updates. I found you can go in any order and still benefit. The information is great--especially Analysis of Risk.

Re: Agent Networking

I cannot access the poll for some reason but my vote is "can't find" an agent network. I have signed on for Twitter, Linked-In but am not "following" (in more ways than one!). I am a Boomer which is a big part of the problem. PS OK JUST GOT THE POLL WITH ABILITY TO SELECT!!!!!!!!

40 years experience--compliance. CPCU, CLU, CIC, ACSR, Masters in Public Administration, Insurance Training Professional--current pay of $37,500. No luck trying to break into underwriting or claims. The highr insurance education just did not work out for me.

Re: CPCU Study Materials

I self studied using the Institute's materials. I had a few exams that I had to take over, but that was just me having a hard time with concepts and not with the material. At the time I was taking CPCU I was not working in the insurance field. I was an employee of an insurance department but only do...

Re: CPCU vs. ARM

With all due respect to Scott, if you have not taken a State licensing examination in the past few years don't give it a difficulty value of 2 on a scale of 10. Try a 5-7 on a scale of 10. Many, if not most, states' exams have come up to the CPCU level. I say that because I am a facilitor for an on-...

Try your local Independent Insurance Agents Association. Members and non-members can take their on-line courses. The Accredited Customer Service Representative (ACSR) program has Commercial Property, Commercial Casualty and Commercial Related Lines modules that will "spoon feed" the inform...

Re: Study tips for the California Life Agent Exam

As a facilitator of an on-line course for property and casualty and soon to be for life and health I can tell you the State exams are difficult but on-line learning can be the way to go. As our students go through their curriculum there are tests throughout the text. Every time the student takes one...
