Re: Adding Addtional Insureds
I occasionally get requests from banks asking me to name them as AI/LP for a new loan, and when I check with the insured they tell me not to issue the certificate because they aren't sure they are using that bank for the loan. Always confirm with the insured first.

Re: Entertainment broker
There aren't really any classes to take. You have to learn it on the job. The (un)fun part is that the entertainment industry does not work like other types of businesses, and as a result, you are asked to do things (many of which are impossible or simply illegal) on the insurance side that you woul...

Re: Waiver of Subrogation on Auto Liability
Being in the entertainment insurance business, I deal with municipalities and their ridiculous insurance requirements on a daily basis. I understand that they don't want to be responsible for anything that happens as a result of issuing a permit, but I'd like a real life example where an insurance c...

Waiver of Subrogation on Auto Liability
One of my clients is trying to obtain a film permit from a municipality. One of the requirements is a waiver of subrogation on the commercial automobile liability coverage. The carrier will not provide the waiver and I didn't even think it was possible to have a waiver of subrogation on auto liabili...

Re: Current Replacement Costs
You need to explain to your insureds that the fluctuation in the value of real estate is primarily a fluctuation in the value of the land, not the structure. Just because the value of the house they are buying is 15% less than it would have been a year ago doesn't mean that it costs 15% less to rebu...

Re: Terrorism coverage and small business GL
Didn't the President specifically push the insurance industry not to use the definition of "act of terrorism" as a way to get out of paying claims related to 9/11? I believe the President pushed to not have the 9/11 attacks declared acts of war so that insurance policies would pay claims.

Re: Curious additional insured question
I don't insure contractors, but my guess is these parties are not covered under the blanket additional insured endorsement because contracts with architects and engineers are not insured contracts.

Re: Certificate Holder - "Endeavor to mail"...
Darren, I can't believe that you strike out the "endeavor to mail". If the strike out is not authorized by the insurance company and your are sued as the result of the certificate you issued, even your E& O carrier will not provide coverage as you intentionally without authorization m...

Re: Certificate Holder - "Endeavor to mail"...
An additional insured is not guaranteed any right of notice of cancellation of a policy. The only party entitled to notice of cancellation is the first named insured on the policy. Insurance companies may notify additional insureds of cancellation as a courtesy, but they are not obligated to. They &...
