Re: Is Google going to run the independent agent out of busi

I'm not too concerned about Google entering the market place and side with Lonestar and goldenarms. want proof that people don't understand their policy? Read the comments section of any Yahoo or Google article regarding insurance. People have NO idea what their coverages are. I had a long term clie...

Re: Start up cost for a new agent

Manny, we're crossing threads here a little bit but, in comparing long term cost it is my honest opinion that SIAA will be far cheaper in the long run than Smart Choice. You will have to get the specific details on each program and make a detailed analysis. What may be the cheapest option to get sta...

Re: I.A. start up- cluster, alliance (siaa type) or go it al

I'm not familiar with the QQ rater, my only experience with a rater has been EZLynx.
However, I've got the paperwork sitting on my desk for the QQ mgt system. I will make the
move with them by the end of the month. good company.

Re: I.A. start up- cluster, alliance (siaa type) or go it al

My MA helped me get my E&O. They got the quotes for me and helped with the application process. I go through them for my rater, EZLynz, and pay them monthly for the service. I've been happy with EZLynx. Regardless of what rater you decide on, get one from day one. Many Mgt systems give SIAA agen...

Re: I.A. start up- cluster, alliance (siaa type) or go it al

Manny, Its been 3 years since I last posted on this thread and I'm still as pleased with SIAA as I was then. My agency continues to grow, my income is increasing and even though the markets have tightened I still have all of my appointments. My agency is 95% personal lines. In todays market getting,...

Re: Non compete lawsuit

Shadow, Not sure it you've seen an attorney or not yet, but you need to do so ASAP if your husband is planning on staying in the business. Non-compete laws vary from state to state. Not sure on Florida. However, all states have sevearl parameters that the non-compete clause must conform to in order ...

Re: Farmers vs. Independent

I don't mean to nitpick, but you do NOT need to have producers under you in order to 'own' an agency. Successful ownership is in the eye of the beholder. I've 'owned' a FIG agency for 17 years and an IA for 6, never had a producer. My IA agency is 25% larger than my old FIG agency and income is almo...

Re: Farmers vs. Independent

Following are a couple of links to review the contracts. Not sure why your DM won't show you a copy of something that is readily available on the net. Is that a harbinger of things to come? not sure. Pay special attention to Paragraph D (1) where it states that the contract can be terminated WITHOUT...

Re: 1st Year as a Producer Stories

Dude, My advice is to ALWAYS put the needs of the customer first. Forget about your paycheck, commissions, and GWP or any other quota while presenting to a potential client. Concern yourself with giving them the honest advice that you would hope to receive. It is tempting to cut corners as a new agen...

Re: Farmers vs. Independent

couple of other things to consider. 1) your DM has quotas for agents going career. It doesn't matter if you are successful or not. Many, many DM's have been fired for not meeting their new hire quota. In fact, that appears to be the main reason that DM's are let go. There is a TON of pressure on the...

Re: What is most fullfilling as an agent?

The honest, sincere gratitude of a client. Whether that be handling a claim or managing an issue to their satisfaction. Last week I wrote a new household whose insurance program was a mess and they had no idea what was going on. His brother referred him to me. I spent some time reviewing, explaining...

Re: What is your biggest pain as an agent?

It never ceases to amaze me the questions clients call to ask. From solicitation letters of auto warranty's to how much does it cost to register a new vehicle. I'm a relatively small shop in a mid sized town. As much as I sometimes get frustrated with those calls/questions it also is a reaffirmation...

Re: Adding Value? Who Cares? And, who gets mad?

@been around- Your advice makes a great deal of sense, however there appears to be another side to this story. Just playing devils advocate, not attacking your opinion. What would you suggestion be for an agent where his client works at the local jiffy lube and forgets to put oil back in a customers...
