Re: Agency Management System

I actually logged on to warn everyone about the system we just bought, but for now, I will piggyback on your thread if that's OK Our system (AMS Prime) is being discontinued by Vertafore so we let them demo and ultimately bought AMS360 and it is turning out to be one of my biggest regrets since open...

Re: Mobile app opinions?

I would be interested to hear from any agent using a template mobile app service, what has been the response/utilization from the clients?

My biggest fear is that I go through the time and expense to get one going and the clients' go "meh"...

CA - Counselor Working with Foster Parents/Kids

Have a prosepct who is a child counselor who has just begun taking side work doing training and working with foster kids and foster parents. She helps guide the foster parents on working with foster kids and helps teach the kids skills such as anger management, etc.. Had one MGA quote with Mt. Verno...

Re: Ethical Problem - Please help!

I would consult an employment lawyer as it looks like you won't be working there long. I wouldn't just up and quit unless a lawyer told me it was the right thing to do.

Re: Anyone with opinion on EZBuy electronic signatures

Well, as the schmuck that started this whole thread, I wanna thank those who voiced opinions, even when those opinions went astray. This thread has become a valuable decision making tool for me (kind of like me... a decision making 'tool'). My initial impression of EZBuy was that it looks cheap and ...

Re: UM/UIM on a Personal Umbrella?

Well, as we are already appointed with the good folks at A&M, I went ahead and checked out their Big Umbrella program and did a couple test quotes. On a milquetoast sample risk (2 vehs + home), including the UM option, AAIC was 8% higher than A&M's rate. On an actual risk where I have the ho...

Re: Anyone with opinion on EZBuy electronic signatures

The reason this has come to get such serious consideration from me is that Mercury is using it now. In fact they not only allow it but they themselves use it extensively in their direct sales department, AIS, whose personal lines production likely dwarfs all of ours. The beauty of it all, is nobody ...

Re: Diminishing Role of the Agent for P&C Insurance

bjwestner, This type of coverage is auto replacement, commonly available in countries outside the USA. There are two types, same value, and new. Same value pays for the cost to replace a vehicle, so not just the value but the sales tax, missed work, etc. New does the same thing but allows you to to...

UM/UIM on a Personal Umbrella?

We are currently offering this to our clients through American Alternative Insurance Company (AAIC). It used to be relatively commonplace but started to dry up 20 years ago until it went the way of the dodo bird. Then, several years ago, I found an MGA market for it. Does anyone know of any other ca...

Re: I'm Considering Opening an Independent Insurance Agency

Well the experience I speak from does not include any attempt to roll a book personally but rather from speaking at length to about a dozen captives that got started in the late '90s after having their contracts terminated. They were quite sure that their previous clientele would just come flocking ...

Re: I'm Considering Opening an Independent Insurance Agency

Having worked in operations on both sides of the fence (cap v. indep), I understand how daunting it is to make that switch. You will find that you know only a fraction of what you need to know to operate as an independent. That being said, I caution this: Don't overestimate the loyalty of your curre...

Re: Credit cards for commercial

Well, suddenly you will find a huge chunk of your commissions going up in smoke to credit card fees. So be prepared to either make a lot less net income on those accounts, or explain some higher fees to your client. If you make 10% commission and give 3% of that away in Paypal fees, you do the math....

Re: Encompass VS. Kemper

Do you have a comparative rater, JAM? Might wanna try plugging the carriers in and finding out. U-Kemp is gonna wanna see that you have at least $1M - 1.5M with a true preferred carrier already, then they are gonna wanna see a number of recent risks that you placed that fits their preferred appetite...
