Re: Top 10 Insurance Myths - incorrect

In PA, Part D - Coverage for Damage To Your Auto, includes a definition for "non-owned auto" which reads as follows: C. "Non-owned auto" means: 1. Any private passenger auto, pickup, van or "trailer" not owned by or furnished or available for the regular use of you or a...

Re: Opposite of - Insured to replacment cost

What I would personally do is use another carrier's estimator (hopefully you have another option that isn't MSB) to do a comparison, and that way you can look at 2 sets of numbers. If they are both lower, I would discuss with underwriting to see if they will drop the coverage A down with the new doc...

Re: Insured to replacment cost or use extended endorsment

If it is not at RC, they do not extend the ERC, or the extended replacement cost endorsement. I would be interested how the standard 80% RC in the ISO HO3 coverage form which states: 3. Loss Settlement. Covered property losses are settled as follows: a. Property of the following types: (1) Personal...

Re: Travelers reducing commissions

SNL puts out market share figures quarterly on the largest private passenger insurers. I can't help but notice that Travelers is one of the only ones on the list consistently that is experiencing losses of written premium from the prior quarters. Here are the figures from the latest report I have ac...

Re: Insured to replacment cost or use extended endorsment

With this scenario, I like to think that the customer doesn't have any issues with coverage limits. They simply need to file a pretty easy E&O claim against the agency they worked with to be made whole in the event they have a claim, whether a total loss, or even a partial claim where they get w...

Re: Gibbs Quadski Amphibian

Contact the manufacturer and ask them which carriers they have been able to place coverage with since this is a new product. May be limited to an E&S carrier taking a gamble on it. The idea of something that travels on land at a fast rate of speed, subject to bumps and bruises that an ATV would ...

Post commission change, their new production figures and retention on good accounts will reflect "formerly known as agent friendly companies" status.

Still waiting in PA as well. I don't think it will change anything at our agency... regionals get most of our business.

Re: claims question

There are cases of candles being defective... http://www.consumerwatch.com/household/candles.php A defective one could explode and cause a loss, its more likely that there was some negligence on behalf of whomever lit the candle, but its certainly not a strict liability matter in my opinion. There s...

Re: claims question

That is more a question of liability than one of coverage. If the tenant alleges that you were negligent in failing to prevent the fire, your policy should kick in and provide liability coverage to defend/settle the loss. Often times customers will discuss claim scenarios and I remind them I can adv...

Re: CertsNow 24/7 or CSR24

I was at a recent ASCnet (applied users group for TAM) with about 40 other representatives from other indpedent agencies. The presenter asked the question regarding these services, and out of the group, only 1 person was using it. Considering the cost involved, and that most certs need special atten...

Re: MERCURY INSURANCE QUESTION (CA)

Pull up the coverage form and read through it. Not trying to be mean, but that's the only way to know for sure. If you could provide some specifics (on a standard ISO form, rental car is considered a private passenger auto by definition, insured has full physical damage on their scheduled units, whe...

Re: What is the Purpose of An Agency Website?

I have personally seen more and more activity coming from our agencys website. Pretend you are a savy consumer, and want to research agents in your town. Goto google and try typing "car insurance (your city and state here)" and see what comes up. Google now shows local results on a map whe...

Re: Inland Marine Fraud

Wow, that is crazy. I usually do some checking online before I talk to a prospect, or after I get a lead. I will check the department of state to see if the company name is filed (it is amazing how many times people don't know the full legal name of their business), check labor and industry website ...

Re: Personal Umbrella-MO

Have you tried RLI? I know they will write in PA with the lower limits. I'd give them a shot. A lot of times I find they are cheaper with risks that have an accident in their history than the primary carrier.
