Re: Hi Exmod contractor in CA
As a former w/c unmderwriter, my first question would be "what is this contractor doing to address their loss problem?"

Re: Ethical Problem - Please help!
Is there a paper copy of the request to increase the reserves in your files? If so, leave it there. As to the notepad documentation, if you're asked, tell the truth. You documented it, but it appears that it was deleted. Beyond that, look elsewhere for employment. If your boss is willing to skirt le...

Re: The Rightful Act and Duty of an Retail Insurance Manager
Has this been part of their job description in the past? If their primary job duties are to handle/administer the current book of business, then "selling may not come naturally to them. One tactic is to threaten them with their jobs, but that usually doesn't produce the desired results....

Perhaps providing a link to this IJ article might give your post some credulity.
Re: adp peo
Thanks for your input is is very helpful. What has been the experience of employers who have gone into a PEO and then tried to go back to the traditional WC? If the client has an x-mod, then that means they're what's known as a "Rule IV" client (at least in California). That is, they have...
Re: adp peo
Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion only. I used to be a w/c underwriter for a number of PEO's, so my views may be somewhat biased (but most likely accurate). PEO's promise the world when it comes to reducing the costs of workers' comp insurance, along with increased service such as loss control...

Re: Online Insurance Shoppers
If you look at the tv ads for a firm like eSurance, they're promoting that you can either obtain coverage online, or talk to a real person. The reality is, when you have a claim, you want to be able to interact with a real human, not a keyboard. Additonally, one of the big downsides of purchasing in...

Are you an insurance agent/broker? You might want to talk with an attorney conversant in bankruptcy filing.

Re: Diminishing Role of the Agent for P&C Insurance
There are no laws that forbid people from making stupid decisions - be it with getting sucked into the wrong type of mortgage or by purchasing inadequate limits of insurance (add into that not understanding what their insurance does and does not cover). If you read between the lines of what I just w...

Re: Claims Made, Claims Made & Reported, and Occurrence
They're not similar. Here's an example. Assume a claims made Products Liability policy has a policy period of 1/1/2011 to 2012 for a particular product. That product was manufactured on 5/1/2010, and the claimant purchased it on 8/1/2010. The product is DIRECTLY responsible for an injury to the pers...

That'd be like having a Lowe's and Home Depot side by side. Not smart.
