"Independent contractor" covered under "employer's" GL?
I'm trying to determine if a person would be covered under the GL of his "employer". We have a homeowner's association, and one of the homeowners works for the association doing maintenance type work. Normally, an employee would be an "insured" under the GL. However, the homeowne...

Georgia and Mississippi WC Exemption question
For these states, this question is about one-man subcontractors with no employees. GA- I see that an employer's owners can exempt themselves from a WC policy; but does this actually protect the GC? In other words...if a one man contractor chooses not to purchase WC, can the owner still go against th...

Long haul dually(hotshot) trucks
Where do you truck agents place your dually risks that are long haul? Can't use Progressive due to 500 mile radius restriction.
Dually/hotshot risks, of course, referring to truckers who use, say, a medium weight pickup like a Ford F450 to pull a cargo trailer(usually a 2 or 3 car hauler trailer).

Re: BA vs BAT policy
I'm not sure what BAT is either but if you are referring to the difference between Business Auto Form or Truckers form, your needs will depend on the specifics of the risk. There can be benefits to both, and limitations, but in general there are some provisions to the Truckers form that are intended...

Re: Terrorism coverage and small business GL
"If the Fed was to exclude GL, and the backstop the TRIA would provide, then we would begin to see rate increases and/or diminished capacity..." My understanding is that after 9/11 the insurance industry was about to exclude terrorism losses overall but that the feds moved to both prohibit...

Re: Terrorism coverage and small business GL
Just a thought, but if your business stocks materials(even if it is a small gas can!) that can be used to make part of explosives and it's found out that it was stolen from you, could not a small business be sued for failure to secure it? Or, yes, maybe you employed a terror suspect and they used yo...

Re: Zurich Builders Risk
This discussion has made me think of a very related question. When you guys get signoffs on other coverages they didn't buy, do you have them sign a form with a statement of a finite list of other possible coverage types or do any of you actually have your client sign an open ended statement that ba...

Re: Property Question - Jewelry Repair Shop
Whoops forum reader, LOL I was typing that last post for a while.
With that said - I'm assuming use of the Special causes of loss form - special causes of loss will still apply to customer's jewelry goods, won't it? Except for the theft limitation; of course.

Re: Property Question - Jewelry Repair Shop
I actually found the limitation I was expecting to find, but it was under the Special Causes of Loss form that must also be attached to a Property policy, it was not under the Building and Personal Property Coverage form. Anyway, it is apparently only a "theft" limitation for jewelry, limi...

Property Question - Jewelry Repair Shop
Assuming a sufficient limit of BPP is chosen, is a normal BPP policy using the ISO Building and Personal Property coverage form sufficient for a jewelry repair shop? For example, if he has a $10,000 watch in his care, custody and control. I see that the form specifically shows that Covered Property ...

Re: Best coverage for Hardware Store/General Contractor
InsMgmt gave a good review, a few extra points: 1. It looks like you didn't write WC for the hardware store. I've never had to deal with this specific situation but I would tend to think that in your case, if the husband were injured on the hardware store premises preparing the product from that sta...

Re: Additional Insureds in Workers Comp
Ah , that makes sense. But I have a feeling it is probably requested by certain companies who take the approach of asking for everything that they've found in some list, where those shared employee functions aren't present.

Ignoring for a moment the availability, or lack thereof, or inability to actually do an AI for WC, what exactly are they trying to accomplish with AI status?
