Re: GA's binding responsibility

In the current soft market you should have the binder immediately. If their service sucks find another GA and/or carrier. And don't believe the GA saying the carrier is "too busy", sounds like smoke to me. Had an account about 7 years ago, D&O/EPL for a nonprofit. Bound account a few d...

Re: Conflict of Interest

Edmundich: here is your question expressed as a story: Joe works for Travelers in their direct writing department. He gets paid by Travelers to write business for them. Joe decides that there is more business that he can write and does not want to do this new business with Travelers so he goes and w...

Re: Unique risks, what's your story?

How about monoline GL for about 2 acres of vacant land with an annual premium of $80,000 back in 2003. The story: this vacant land is between 2 pro sports stadiums and has several million people walk on it yearly. Included a few staircases & 2 escalators. Land is owned by a different entity that...

Re: Farmers Insurance

Sacman - good comments. I have heard people trash old employers or companies in interviews so that's why I said it here. Venting your spleen here can be a good thing but harboring the grudge for years will eat away at your soul. Displaying old grudges at interviews is in poor taste and companies pre...

Re: Farmers Insurance

But I learned valuable lessons from both places and I value the lessons I learned. C&B taught me a lot and trained me well. My diverse insurance experience made Hartford very quick to hire me in 2002. Things went very well with them and if you are looking for a company to work for I highly recom...

Re: Farmers Insurance

Allstate has screwed their agents so many times it's hard to count. State Farm is also not noted for being kind to their captives. Federated is brutal to work for as well, have to sell the auto dealer or oil jobber P&C plus life plus investments and if you don't they rake you over the coals. So ...

Re: Farmers Insurance

Boy, will you folks ever give up on Farmers? It must be the #1 topic in IJ forum history. I'm ex FIG myself before I went IA and then went into underwriting with Hartford. I'm no fan of Farmers but I'm tired of hearing them get bashed constantly. If you don't like them then leave or don't sign up. Y...

Re: Auto Liability basics

I remember this from when I first got in the business: Auto liability generally follows the driver Auto physical damage generally follows the vehicle Loan your vehicle = loan your insurance This would only apply to personal lines, obviously. In commercial lines it's a lot more clear - any auto, owne...

Re: State Farm Personal articles insurance?

Gunther - that's good info you put up from those carriers but what matters here is what his policy states. If its ISO based he's probably stuck with ACV if he wants cash. Also, it looks like you pulled up the available forms. That's all well & good but available does not mean that it's actually ...

Re: State Farm Personal articles insurance?

Jhonydeep, no one is really responding to your question. State Farm has a moderate reputation for paying claims - sometimes fine, sometimes they really drag their feet - but I've never heard anything bad about them using a substandard jewelery store. Some advice: first, read your personal articles f...

Re: Farmers for Independent Agents?

Farmers has been available to some east coast states via independent agents for a few years. As far as I know they are captive only everywhere else - midwest, west, southwest. Just some east coast & southeast states through independents.

Re: Farmers Insurance

This is a dead horse. How many times must we whack it with a stick to prove that it is indeed dead? This thread started in 2008 and still gets posts. Bottom line: a significant number of ex-Farmers agents are unhappy about their time with FIG. Those who are thinking of joining Farmers should be caut...

I would think this would be E&S only. Big difference, though, if they are doing lower or higher work. Across from my old office in Chicago there is a 40 story building that has had scaffolding around it for over 5 years.

Re: Residential New Construction Contractor/Pulte Homes

That program must be an OCP (or OCIP). Owners and Contractors Protective. That is job or client specific coverage and is not ISO standard stuff. The GL is cheaper because it limits his work to only Pulte homes and also does not have as many of the provisions as a standard GL policy does. It's really...
