Re: cpuc

Did you mean CPCU (not CPUC or CPU)?

Can it help in getting a job in the insurance industry? Sure. However, if you have absolutely no experience, its benefit will be greatly diminished.

Re: Brokerage and investment firm

Are you asking what the process is to register as an insurance agent/broker, and also as an investment (i.e. securities broker/dealer)? Your questions weren't worded logically. FYI, each state has their own Department of Insurance, so you'll need to contact them. As to registering as a securities br...

Re: What are your thoughts on the insurance industry

If you're looking at working in the insurance industry - especially as an insurance agent/broker - with the sole goal JUST to make money - you're approaching it from the wrong angle. Insurance - be it personal lines or commercial lines - is complex. Approaching someone, or a business, just to "...

Re: What licenses are needed to insure commercial lines

Not to come down too hard on you, but....if you haven't checked your state's Department of Insurance website, that's the best place to start. Each state varies by its licensing requirements. I'd also suggest that you consider working FOR a local/regional insurance agency rather than going it alone. ...

Re: Job advice...please help!

Disclaimer - the opinions that follow come from someone that worked over 25 years in the insurance industry - both on the agency/brokerage (both small and large) side as an account manager and on the company side as a commercial underwriter. Admittedly, my views are biased...but they're usually righ...

Re: Licensed vs non licensed CSR ( CA)

Hiring a non-licensed CSR potentially puts your agency, license, and E&O at risk. If an unlicensed CSR is talking coverage with clients, they, and your agency, are in violation of the insurance code.

Re: claims question

Do you have a formal rent agreement with this person? If so, and it's properly worded requiring the tenant to be responsible for their own personal property no matter what, then you're not responsible.

If you don't, then you could be held legally liable for their loss.

Re: General Cont wants AI on auto and Excess

The COI needs to state that the Umbrella is following form for all underlying coverages and endorsements. As to the BAP, if the policy wording already includes any "indemnities" as additional insured, then it shouldn't be a problem showing the GC as AI. If the GC still has fits of not bein...

Re: Customer Retention

Coming from the customers point of view: 1. Do what's in the client's best interest. Don't assume that you can just "renew as is" every year. 2. If you claim to provide "value added service", be prepared to define what that "service" is and how it actually benefits the ...

Re: Combinability of Interest

As a general rule, the same 51% common ownership would apply to General Liability, with the primary exception being joint ventures. If MegaCorporation has 51% ownership in LittleCompany B, then both can be written on one GL policy. If they have only 20% ownership interest in LittleCompany C, then mo...

There needs to be some sort of common interest or ownership, either through stock ownership, partnership (General or Limited) or a joint venture.

What is the specific scenario?

Re: Worker's comp commission

The pros to "selling workers comp" is that you're providing a coverage that almost every business (except for one person sole proprietorships) needs. Providing this coverage can also help in account retention. As to the "follow up admin", unless it's a large complex account that ...
