Re: ATV used for snow removal
Up here in the great Northwest there are a lot of homeowners that use an ATV or tractor for snow control. If it's at home the homeowner's liability should extend if he accidentally damaged property or injured someone. The "place of business" might be different. Does he own the property and...

Re: Property Insurance - Agreed Amount
Hi Scott. How did you manage to segway from a one-topic discussion (co-insurance) to all the stuff listed below: business income issues -lack of per location aggregates -low deductibles -pollution exclusions -low (or no) employee dishonesty coverage -inadequate umbrella limits -specific property cov...

Re: Property Insurance - Agreed Amount
Scott, you are correct in some circumstances. On most, I fear, you are way off-base. When I'm in the field visiting with clients about the replacement cost for a building, unless it's relatively new they don't have a clue. I have found that most of the carriers' raters are assigning appropriate repl...

Re: National Agents Alliance? Legit or Keep Away?
How interesting! Hey, Scott, it's too bad 'ol Dallas Viper didn't get to blog about some of those ethics topics we shared earlier! What a piece of work! I guess I gotta get me a yacht so Dallas considers me rich. Does my 1988 20-foot open bow count? Hee Hee! Hey Mark93311... keep asking the question...

The new Safeco / Liberty NW has great farm products that include these risks. Look 'em up!

Re: E&O Coverage
We also use the PIA plan thru Lisa Tucker's office in Vancouver, Washington. They are very responsive and friendly to work with. I have also looked into the NAIFA program. If your agency will be primarily P/C then it's not for you. If your income is more than 50% Life /Health and financial products ...

Re: Broker Dealer for insurance agents?
Mattbalt, Look just down the road. I own a independent multiline agency, do about +/- $500,000 in variable annuity business per year, three or four VUL's and a bunch of traditional life & DI. I have my agency E & O through the PIA program (Safeco), and my B/D is... Ohio National Life / ONESC...

Re: E & O Insurance Coverage
Hi There, flyeres.
If you are a member of NAIFA you can now access a pretty good program. Until recently they didn't do all that a P/C shop, or multiline shop needed, but that has changed. Look them up. Try www.naifainsurance.com. Good luck.

Re: FAMILY FARM WITH SAWMILL
Thanks for the feedback. I've considered the exclusion idea, but I really don't like going that route. The sawmill is in a section of the primary shop for the farm, so to exclude the property too much would be excluded. I do have access to the onebeacon product line through Agent Secure, so I'll giv...

FAMILY FARM WITH SAWMILL
Hi, everybody! I have a great challenge for you... I have a prospect with a family farm (beef & hogs) as well as a tree farm operation. Everything about the account is preferred... home, barns, equipment... but they also have a small sawmill set up to mill their own logs, for their personal use....

Re: Farmers Insurance
Well, I've been having a few weird experiences with Farmer's, too. Their commercial underwriters are accepting stuff that Zurich won't touch, that usually take a surplus lines or at least a specialty product (Lumberyard). Then the big boosts in PL premium... followed by the recent efforts by Zurich ...

First, I'll assume that you want to stay in your local area. Join several of the local Independant Agency associations and PARTICIPATE! There are Big I, PIA and similar associations to work with, all will have local meetings and networking opportunities. If you are young, join the affiliated Young A...

Re: Independents...What's Your Best Form of Paid Advertisement?
Hey, San Diego... I'd suggest you (and your agency Principals) talk to your preferred carriers. We did a cost-sharing program with Safeco a few years ago, and it raised quite a few leads for us. Obviously, we didn't write them all, but did boost our personal lines premium by over $200K and the comme...

Re: Producer buying into an agency, question.
Producer0317... The idea of asking for a qualified 3rd party to help can be brought into a conversation tactfully. You might mention that you "read something" in a Trade Journal, and share a story about how an agency owner didn't get a fair price for his agency. There are other stories equ...
