Re: Any suggestion for an MGA in California?

Lady Broker seems like one of the good ones. Here is what you need to be careful about. When you submit an application, the application is nothing more than a wish list of coverages you would like to offer your client. The MGA/Surplus lines broker will quote or submit to their carriers, and they wil...

Re: Would a carrier deny a property claim if.....

The "key" is to indicate on the application that the client or the building owner has estimated that the age is ....This should be used if the agent cannot determine the accuracy of the answers. Then of course the client signs the application. If the underwriter accepts the application, th...

Re: Dwelling Fire for rental owned by LLC

Re: Personal lines question: HO3 v. DP3

Gee how about that the eligibility for a HO-3 is that it is owner-occupied. The dwelling must be the principle residence of the insured. I recommend that you read your companies HO-3 form carefully and increase your E&O insurance limits. You might wish to discuss the coverage with the companies ...

Re: Modern Proposals

All agent issued proposals should include a disclaimer similar to the following: "Please read your policy for all of the terms and conditons. The policy contains exclusions and other limitatations. Please call if you have any questions." I also do not like to provide proposals from quotes ...

Re: Crazy for starting an agency now?

Given your qualifications, you should have little trouble in starting a commercial agency. In CA my experience that most agents who claim to write business insurance have limited knowledge in identifing or explaining coverage needs. Preferred markets are easily obtainable through a variety of souces...

Re: Certificate Holder - "Endeavor to mail"...

Darren. I wish you well. My experience as a small commerical agency owner is that the personal agency relationships with preferred companies has eroded. In many cases we are dealing with company service centers or through third parties for access to preferred insurance companies. As a result, more c...

Re: Certificate Holder - "Endeavor to mail"...

Darren, I can't believe that you strike out the "endeavor to mail". If the strike out is not authorized by the insurance company and your are sued as the result of the certificate you issued, even your E& O carrier will not provide coverage as you intentionally without authorization ma...

Broker Fees

This has been a convulted subject. My understanding is if your are acting as an agent, you may not add a broker fee. If you are not appointed with the Insurance Carrier then you are acting as a broker (One criteria is you have no binding authority). If you are acting as a broker you may charge a bro...

Career Change

Best advice is to talk to agency recruiter that specializes in insurance placements. My experience indicates that most insurance companies would rather hire less experienced persons rather than those with alot of "book training" Afer the hire, then get the advanced book training. It would ...

Knowing that you have a dog breed that has a propensity to bite needs special consideration. If this is a risk you wish to place, you will need to ask more questions about the caring and past history of this particular animal. Then discuss risk with the HO underwriter about acceptability. If you nee...

Exotic animals

You need to be more specific. You also need to review the company's application very carefully and fully answer questions asked. If the animal
