Re: Newbie Question
One thing I'd add here. With revenues on the agency side 1/2 of what they were 2 years ago(give or take), buying an agency or starting one seems a dangerous proposition at best right now. My advice would also be to look into working as a producer under someone else for awhile, while learning from th...

Re: What is the value of qualified set Commercial Appointments
Ok boys, Time to start playing nice! Listen we've gotten way off topic here and it's time to veer back. The topic was the value of the product that both of your services provide. I'm not going to pretend to have a preference for either one of your companies, but I will stand by my original contentio...

Re: What is the value of qualified set Commercial Appointments
Scott, Ok, I can understand and appreciate your approach and stance on marketing. I agree that your approach makes much better sense and is a much better option for someone that has been in the business for long enough to have garnered several designations and established a reputation. My opinion is...

Re: What is the value of qualified set Commercial Appointments
Well Scott, Your opinion is pretty clear. I guess you have some other magic formula for starting up your business and prospecting. But let me guess, that information is only available through thousands of dollars of consultations with your firm.... Yes that would be a much better option.... Everybod...

Re: What is the value of qualified set Commercial Appointments
IG 205, In my experience of 15 years of telemarketing and appointment setting and 11 years as a broker, I find that having a qualified lead developed by a QUALIFIED lead generator has several advantages as opposed to only a couple of disadvantages. (Note the use of a q...

Re: proposal question
It sounds to me like the underwriter didn't get all the information they needed up front. The entity ownership issue and outside coverages should be disclosed up front to avoid this type of situation. That said, It seems that the exposure to the carrier here is limited by the seperate entity coverag...

Re: Coverage for a products failure to perform
Rob: I agree that your concern is not a Warranty question. You are really looking at two basic exposures to the manufacturer; 1) There is an inherent design flaw which may cause a malfunction of the product which jeopordizes both persons and property. In which case the Mfg. E&O should be the app...

Re: Coverage for a products failure to perform
"take a roll" means if they perform any design functions, if they "play a part" or do anything in the product design. Then I do agree that a mfg. E&O would be a really good idea. So if the product malfunctions due to a design flaw you have protection, but if it's a mfg. flaw ...

Re: Coverage for a products failure to perform
That's not how I would work on this exposure. You're looking at a technology product that likely has market appeal in several standard market technology divisions. I would look to provide full GL coverage with Prod/ops. I see the real exposure as being in the faulty operation of the device, so I see...

Re: Market for GL for metal fabrication manufacturing co
I've just quoted a metal products manufacturer through The Hartford including Products coverage which the client has NEVER had. They offered a rate that couldn't be passed up and client is purchasing. There are several E&S markets available to offer this but if you have access to The Hartford ca...

Re: Where can I buy renewal leads from? Who are good suppliers?
I have had some luck using an internet site called "melissadata". Depending on the kind of information you're looking for they can custom tailer lists to your specs or you can do it yourself. The more results the more the cost. I've also gotten free lists and they offer a lot of other serv...

Re: Economy and its influence on insurance market
I don't think finding different markets is going to help. When the client is in a position of no work, having $100s of thousands of outstanding receivables they can't collect because the properties haven't sold so they can't get paid, and not enough money left to pay any premiums, new carriers are n...

Re: Ethics Case #9
Scott; My reponse to your question is two-fold. First you discuss "the apparent oversight" with the boss and then you get the heck out and try to find a boss you can trust as soon as possible! independentguy: That's a really good question, a better one though might be what do we as ethical...

Re: Economy and its influence on insurance market
As a Ca. construction specialist I've seen near or total devastation for clients. Clients across the board are reducing reducing reducing. Staff, jobs and even operations are being effected. Residential tract builders are the most devastated right now since virtually no new builds are releasing with...
