Re: Take the Harford "Agent's Challenge"
scooter, I feel your pain, but in all fairness to the Walmart thing, that is actually an independent agency that worked our an arrangement with Walmart, to receive referrals from their site. So Safeco is written through an IA that partnered with Walmart. So for now, Safeco does not sell direct like ...

Re: Take the Harford "Agent's Challenge"
Well, all seems very simple to sort through. If what the Hartford rep in NJ is true, than I am sure that the President of Hartford personal lines would be more than willing to come to this forum and declare that the Hartford direct auto rate and the agency channel auto rate are the same. Waiting....

Re: Take the Harford "Agent's Challenge"
I don't know why all agents, once given this knowledge, don't immediately roll their Hartford book to another carrier... Bad enough if you have to compete against some of these companies directly. Quite the other thing if they are competing direct, and offering a much lower rate than what they allow...

Re: Insured to replacment cost or use extended endorsment
Detroit, in most states, the insured is not required to rebuild. However, the insurer is held to a higher standard by the courts should the insured decide to rebuild.

Re: Insured to replacment cost or use extended endorsment
Detroit, couple of things: 1. The cost to rebuild a house, which is based on the cost of labor and materials, in addition to being up to code, has absolutely nothing in common with what a house is worth, which is market value. It is purely accidental if the market value of a property is close to the...

Re: Insured to replacment cost or use extended endorsment
An ISO form is one thing. But many carriers do not write the ISO form, but instead will write a state specific form, and therefore have their own proprietary ERC wording. So an ERC endorsement wording can vary from state to state. As others have said already, if you don't cut corners on insuring at ...

Re: Insured to replacment cost or use extended endorsment
I have a friend that is a large loss adjuster for a top 3 US carrier. He is one of the adjusters that goes out in the event of a total loss. I have asked him this same question. His answer: They scrutinize the coverage A dwelling coverage amount at claim time, to make sure it is insured at replaceme...

I would pay more attention to your local state department of insurance complaint ratio.

Progressive Reducing Commission in CA & FL?
I have heard that Progressive is going to reduce commissions to 8% in CA and FL. Any Cali or Florida agents talk to your Progressive rep lately about this?

Re: State Farm
If this were possible, you would have heard about this by now. State Farm owns the policies, not the agent. Once you look at the ownership of the book, you will realize the answer to your question.

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
insurance1822, unless there is a large enough drop off of new business from the agent channel, there is no way Travelers will reverse course. This time next year, during one of the quarterly investor calls, if Travelers is able to crow about new business premium being way up, agents are screwed. The...

Re: Are Insurance Agents Employees or Independent Contractor
ssweatlaw, I have a question for you: If an independent contractor insurance agent(captive or independent agent) is given a monthly quota, and is terminated due to not making said production quota, does this infer an employer / employee relationship? There are some companies now, such as Travelers, ...

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
Interestingly, direct mail solicitations are now showing up in the mail from Travelers, asking customers to call Travelers direct to "Save Money". All the while Travelers is demanding that the agents sell on "Value", not price. Anybody else's BS meter going off the charts?

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
I thought I would bring this thread back up to the top, so agents can update us on how Travelers is working out for everyone. In my neck of the woods(Texas) they are terminating several agents. Excuse is lack of doing 4 policies per month. Anyone else seeing this in other states?
