Re: ACA/ObamaCare Open Enrollment 2015

I'm not making a political statement here. The legislation is here and if it's going to benefit me and my company, I'm going to take advantage of it. I wrote about 35 policies last year which adds up to a pretty nice annual income boost that wasn't there before, and I've already starting writing new...

ACA/ObamaCare Open Enrollment 2015

Just seeing how it's been going for the L&H agents out there for this season's open enrollment? I had a few problems with HC.gov yesterday but wound up using a web based entry, Health Sherpa, and it cut my enrollment from about an hour with HC.gov (with creating usernames and passwords, etc) to ...

Re: Inherited an insurance agency

First of all, my condolences for your loss. I was in your shoes a year and a half ago. Fortunately for me, I had already been in the business for 6 years before my father passed away. So I had already assumed his position before he passed, as he had a progressively worsening condition. Although I wa...

Re: Travelers reducing commissions

My apologies, I didn't realize that was specific to my agency. It was emailed to me a couple of times, so make sure you fill it out or request it be emailed to you as lonestar has offered. As mentioned previously, I"m in the process of starting the book roll process to another carrier that focu...

Re: Travelers reducing commissions

Let them hear about it. I just finished my Travelers Voice of the Agent survey. I let them have it and I suggest all agents do the same. Here is how the email is worded: Dear Agency Partner, At Travelers, listening to our agencies is not something we simply talk about it’s; how we do our business. T...

Need umbrella market with a large loss. TX

I'm looking for a market to write a $5 million umbrella for a farm and ranch owner who recently had a $1.4m loss on an animal that caused an accident on a highway. I'm striking out with my normal markets.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Travelers reducing commissions

Great article. We'll miss David.

I'm still compiling dec pages to roll this book. I hope more agents do the same. I think its imperative that they will be an example of how NOT to treat your agents, instead of an example to other companies on how to increase profitability.

Re: Travelers reducing commissions

agent14, you aren't the first person I've heard this from. A colleague of mine said his marketing rep pretty much said the same thing in not quite the same words. If the new agents are writing the new Quantom 2.0, then they might get the axe. For my agency, we're in the process of collecting dec pag...

Re: Damage to "Your work" exclusion on CGL policy

I'm glad this thread was resurrected, as it has caused me confusion in the past. First question: How do you explain why this is not covered? Explain that a CGL policy is not intended to guarantee or warrant the insured work. It protects the insured when they are held liable for damage caused by thei...

Re: Why am I still an Agent?

Detroitgirl2 - I was able to get this book for 1 times revenue, which is not normal I must say. And with regards to Life and Health, I wrote about 30-35 policies on the ACA with the majority of those being on the Federal Exchange and I've been getting commission checks each month from BCBS. Thats st...

Re: Why am I still an Agent?

Beyer, I didn't mean to sound arrogant and thump by chest that I'm growing, I hope it didn't come across that way. And I don't quite understand what you mean "keep buying up the dead office." I'm growing organically, not purely through acquisition. The book I just bought was very very smal...

Re: Why am I still an Agent?

I keep reading these types of threads, and hearing from other agents about the doomsday. But if anything our business is up. I acquired another small book of business not long ago, but even our organic growth is up. We're not busting at the seams by any stretch of the imagination, but we're definite...

Re: Christmas Bonus?

I completely agree with D on this one. We are very generous with our Christmas bonuses, perhaps too much with some. Although its something I inherited from my father, I do agree that is a good practice when possible. I have absolutely excellent staff, and so I make sure that they reap the benefits o...

Re: New Phone Line System Help

As someone who has been on the traditional PBX system, to VOIP (to another VOIP) and then finally moved back to a traditional PBX. I was on VOIP for about 4-5 years. When it worked great, it was fantastic. In addition to the other's comments, I liked the flexibility to go in and change greetings rem...
