Re: Umbrellas on trucking accounts

INTLXS, I've found James River has been quite aggressive up to a few months ago. The last one I wrote a few months back was a sand and gravel hauler large fleet and they were 50% lower than what was quoted for them last year. I don't know what their MPs are but if you can sell Surplus Lines carriers...

Re: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Way to go JCT! A reminder to all of us who claim to be professionals that Insurance is anything but a commodity! Insurance is a risk management partnership with your clients that should always be done with long term goals and planning taken into account from both the producer and the consumer! If as...

Re: Questions from a new guy

New Guy, I understand your comment about getting your boss off your back... More appropriately where you need him is in a sup-portive position. Agency principles, don't get ruffled here as my comments are in support of a new producer looking for support, but you'll get young producers into a much st...

Re: Personal Time Off (PTO) vs Vacation & Sick Time

I tend to agree with Ladybroker, as an employee and parent, I have found PTO a better option with more flexibility. However, I also see the logic and sense of Victoria's opinion. I'm sure solid arguments can be made each way, but my vote would go to the PTO. I just believe you get less deception fro...

Re: Newbie Question about Pay

Newbie, With prior sales experience even without ownership of your book, I would think you could expect somewhere in the $50,000 neighborhood on a commission draw basis. If you were able to convert some of your former clients you would have an edge. If not, you'd better be ready to burn up the pavem...

Re: Need Product Liability Coverage for Dental item

Hi 79, I'd have to think you could get a standard market quote for something this innocuous with the limited exposure in receipts. Golden Eagle has 2 class codes they should write this under, 59781 Tool mfg. - Accessories and / or 59782 Tool Mfg. - Hand type not powered. I would think this would fit...

Re: Terrorism coverage and small business GL

Rob, I have to agree it's very difficult to provide an insured a convincing argument for the need of TRIA. I usually tell them "it's an optional coverage (usually, though some carriers do not offer an opt out) that we are mandated to offer. That said, if you're not in an area you might consider...

Re: Farmer's Commercial Appitite

I couldn't agree with D's more. Every day we see square peg risks fitting somehow into round hole UW guidelines. That said, you might try to contact ILM at 800-428-1441 / http://www.ilmgroup.com. They will likely give you the chance to compete on this risk and if you put enough fear of consequences ...

I'd recommend you contact J.R. Olsen Bonds....

I've always had good experiences with them.

Re: Good market for commercial real estate building

Steve,
I would look into accessing Sequoia or CIG.
I think they're probable as aggressive as anyone in Ca. right now for the LR type risk.
Not sure who to go to as a GA but you can call the carriers and find out.
Good luck!

Re: Newly Licensed - Please Help!

As a mid thirties man with no college education I was fortunate indeed to find my way into this field. I did it with an exensive background in BTB telemarketing. 12 years later I have worked myself into a successful producer position with a commercial lines brokerage. The steps I took to get here we...

Re: Employers Liability

Thanks Hal. I've actually already read through all points of the article and have printed it all for future reference. My problem / dilemna is that the General Contractor is telling us they want a specfic cover for the Employers Lia. but my contention is that this is provided by part two of the Work...

Employers Liability

I am needing advise on how to address a General Contractor that is demanding Employers Liability be provided by my client whom is a sub-contractor. My client is currently carrying their worker's compensation through a Self Insured PEO group and we're being told there is no coverage provided. Any adv...

I'd suggest you try Smith Bell & Thompson out of Vermont.
Check out their web site for details on their Metalworking program.
They have a pretty wide appetite and I'm thinking they can likely do that for you.
Good Luck!

Re: Filling out ACORD forms.. like a pro

Meytai, I couldn't agree more with Ladybroker. I learned to do acords while learning a marketing position (placer) 12 years ago, and having the most thorough information you can on the application will always give you an advantage. My teachers were underwriters, I would call and ask them about a cer...
