Re: Professional Employer Organization
Much will depend upon what classes of business this PEO handles, along with what REAL loss control and other claims mitigating services they offer. That is, if they are a "jack of all trades" and handle class codes from the lowest potential for loss, to the higher severity classes, chances...

Re: In search of best PDA for Insurance business
First...there is no "best". As to netbooks, they quickly lost their usefullness/popularity/purpose when the iPad was announced. When you say you want "to do business transation during an on the run basis", are you looking to be able to fill out online forms, or complete Acord app...

Re: Farmers Refuses to Pay Botched Auto Repair
Get a couple of estimates and file a small claim against Farmers.
IMHO, Farmers is THE WORST insurance company to ever have a claim against. Been screwed over twice by them.

Re: Hiring agents and CSR's
Since it appears you're in SoCal, there are probably plenty of well qualified account managers (CSR's) that are available. First, you need to determine what skill sets you need in your people, and what a competative salary level is. Keep in mind that since your firm is new, people will be hesitant t...

Re: Conflict of Interest
Most insurance agencies (and direct companies) have stated policies with regards to such activities....and such would be considered a conflict of interest. At the very least, he would most likely be fired. And...if he signed any sort of agreement upon being hired by his full time job that forbids su...

Re: Waiver of Subrogation on Auto Liability
Yes, insurance carriers can, and do, provide a Waiver of Subrogation on Commercial Auto policies. That's something we require on any vendor/contractor that does business with us (we also require a WOS on GL/Products and W/C). Essentially, we don't want to provide any avenue for a carrier to even try...

Re: WORKCOMP AUDITS
Given that the average premium size is under $10k, it really doesn't pay for the insurance company to do a physical audit.
Do they as for copies 941's (federal) or state quarterly tax reports? Most insurance companies will compare these to the figures that the insured reports on their audit form.

Is the only concern how "lucrative" the market is, or is there any concern as to whether it's a good idea for the client?

Re: Business P&C Insurance Renewal / Bid Process
We're actually considering making a switch, partially because they continue to under-impress us, and because of a couple of SNAFU's (failure to place flood insurance, accounting issues). My main point is that it is the insurance agent's/brokers' job to make sure their client has both the best and pr...

Re: Business P&C Insurance Renewal / Bid Process
Trust me...they're lazy. I've been here for three years, and every year it's "renew as is" on almost all lines and all layers of coverage. All of the people are ex-insurance folks who still keep tabs on the market, and are well aware of what's going on. Unless we force the issue of "w...

Re: Business P&C Insurance Renewal / Bid Process
Here's a "client side" viewpoint. I work for a large healthcare provider. We currently have two brokers - one handles the HPL/GL (i.e. hospital professional liability) and the other handles all else (property, Workers' Comp, D&O, Crime, etc.). The broker that handles all else usually t...

Hook up with a reputable independent agency rather than starting your own. Look for a mid-sized regional agency that has a good selection of markets and is looking to grow by adding competent producers.

Here are some thoughts from the "client side" perspective. I work for a large healthcare provider in their risk management department. Our work includes the review of insurance requirements and often includes dealing directly with a vendor/contractor's insurance agent/broker. For those tha...

Re: Disclosure of losses from prior entity
There are several consequences. First, the insured could have their coverage canceled mid-term for not disclosing material facts. Second, should they have another claim, the carrier could take a reservation of rights on the claim once they find out there were prior undisclosed losses. Third, the age...
