Well in 34 years, I have never heard of a broker not bieng able to write something...I'd find a new GA (or 3) to go thru. Doesn't Florida have some type of cat pool or fair plan? It makes no sense they'd be willing to write the interior contents and not the exterior (bldg). If the bldg is in bad sha...

Well not knowing the ABS system I'm going to say go with Quickfile. I rec'd an e-mail from them not too long ago that I believe offered a free trial. and like you said, I do like the online advantage. They can doi all the updates and I don't have to mess with it!

Re: What to sell

I'm always amazed when I see an agent who does both real estate and insurance. Can one person do both well? I can't keep up with all the change in the insurance world alone. Stick with various insurance products. I agree. I've always wondered why the captives/direct writers, wanted their agents to ...

You never have told us what type of agency you are, primarily personal lines or what?

And I don't recall now, what is the cost of ABS?

Most of this is just going to depend on the budget you have, how many clients you have at this point and what you want the system to do.

If you feel the need to have something else in your agency, then (considering the time of year it is) why not do simple taxes? I don't like mixing businesses personally, like said above, I want my agent to be, well, my agent! Now if it is a matter of having extra room, why not consider, bringing in ...

I think for the money I'd use Quickfile, matter of fact I did :D If you are mainly personal lines I think they do very well. They are also good for basic commercial but if you are mainly a commercial lines agency with larger more intricate accounts, you may want to be sure they have what you need fi...

Certainly, we can practice the rule of prospering by putting the client/prospects needs first, but I've suffered the folly of trying to go 'over the top' with service and advice to an audience that by and large doesn't give a fig and deals in a bottom line world of 'can you get it any cheaper'. Cou...

Scott, a little lengthly of a comment but points well made. However, we (as agents, you are a consultant) still have to "sell" to the client/prospect as so many do not have a clue what they "need" or why they "need" it... hence the selling capabilities. One must show t...

I pesonally say go for the life end of it and run from the health  Actually i fyou do health, just choose one company to represent. The problem with health insurance is that you "babysit" everyone and sadly, you will quote a lot just for people to be in shock for how much it costs. ...

I opt for the "almost completely commercial" agency. Two reasons, commercial does indeed pay better. Don't fool yourself on the servicing however, you can babysit a commercial account just as well as a personal account. Like you said though, you will have a CSR to handle that portion of i...

Being independent already, you should know that just because you buy a book of business doe NOT mean you will automatically pick up the companies they are with now. You will still have to go thru the appointment process. The book you buy will automatically be set up for non-renewal "agent no lo...

In both situations, I say classes. The one on one is ever so helpful and it is nice to get out and speak with other agents (insurance people) to get a feel of what is happening "outside" your own insurance world.

etimer, I forget now, but did you say, he was approved with your company? If so, heck yes, I'd pursue the sale fully. If you are only talking $100 a year diff, then the service, insight and knowledge you provide should certainly be worth $100 to them yearly and they will KNOW that they have a guara...
