oc, what really fuels my frustration is how any agent could be ambivalent.

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
Well, I had a meeting with my Travelers rep recently. They are spouting the company line, such as “The new auto product WILL be successfull…” and the impression the reps are being told to communicate to the agents is: “YOU WILL sell it regardless of commission or else…” Hmmm. Let me correct you Mr./...

Re: allstate office in upstate ny
gms, you are wise to 2nd guess this "opportunity". I don't know about selling Allstate insurance in NY, as my 14 years of exerience is based in selling insurance in Texas: 11 years on the captive side and 3+ years on the independent side. But I am sure some of the logic applies in both sta...

Re: is a physical exam necessary before taking life insuranc
Without a paramed exam, most companies will only offer a small amount of coverage, and the rate, or cost per $1,000 of coverage, will be much much higher than a preferred rate. The best rates / higher face amounts are only offered to those that submit to a paramed exam. Think of it as a free physical.

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
Forum Reader, good question. I wonder what answer you would get, if you posed the same question, to a Gecio call center rep or a State Farm agent. Are they doing what is best for the consumer when they knowingly present a very high insurance quote? For example, State Farm's homeowner's rates are on ...

Re: New lead model question - could cost per sale work?
A major reason why I am skeptical from buying leads, in addition to the reasons posted by "D's": - The type of client that clicks on "Save on Auto Insurance" is usually the type of client that will change every 6 months for a $1 cheaper rate. This is NOT THE TYPE of clients agent...

Re: What Would Your Veteran Self, Tell Your Newbie Self...
Lonestar, Sound advice, and much appreciated. I've already started reaching out to some mortgage broker friends of mine. I'm not going to be doing direct mail..not until I have the money to through away.... Two questions: 1. How would you approach centers of influence? What would you say? And which...

Re: New lead model question - could cost per sale work?
Ok, I'll give my two cents. D's is, as is usually the case, right on. It is not like most agents are getting filthy rich, although the ones that have paid their dues and worked really hard over a long period of time, do experience some financial rewards. I would think most agents are like me, we wor...

Re: What Would Your Veteran Self, Tell Your Newbie Self...
You mean what would I tell my "newbie" self, besides don't start a career in the insurance business? Don't do: 1. Don't represent a captive carrier. 2. Don't waste money on direct mail marketing. Do: 1. Be an IA, and do what it takes to obtain and maintain contracts with mulitiple companie...

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
It is interesting to see everyone's perspective on this. Some agents are of the opinion that the movie ending has already been determined, so why do anything about protecting one's income, while others feel like some things could be done. I feel that while there may not be a whole lot a single agent...

Re: Will Insurance Co pay existing claim after cancelling?
"The business grew, inventory grew, but never updated the policy because I never given a thought of it and no one told me to make changes." Itchibahn, sometimes we don't like to hear the truth, but like it or not, it is your responsibility to contact your agent and update your coverages e...

Re: Travelers reducing commissions
Travelers is going the Progressive route. This may be the case. If so, my Travelers rep better get used to the same answer I give my Progressive rep when they come in and ask:"What can we do to help you write more of our policies?" My answer will be the same for Travelers. "Pay me th...
