Re: Insured/policyholder dies - what to do?

My Goodness I would call and offer my condolence and indicate to the extent possible what policies I had and offer to discuss at a time appropriate what help our office could provide through the loss encountered. I am certain the conversation who lead me to the next steps I would take to help the bu...

Re: Frustrated Georgia Agent

I had a similiar experience. What your suggesting is hard to prove and the aggravation to you will not be worth the trouble. Let alone the law suits that may ensue if you make your comments known. And, you might lose in court. Your best recourse is to separate yourself either by bying out your partn...

Re: Auto Liability basics

The lesson to be learned here is that in today's environment there in no such thing as a standard automobile policy. One has to be very cautious especially when a client is driving other than a "private passenger vehicle not owned and listed on the insured's policy." The agent needs to be ...

Re: Producer Agreement/Contracts

Wow. Just like today, there are no standard insurance policies. Insurance agencies have different objectives and goals. And to match a new producer and to motivate him or her is a real challenge. The investment that is made in the hiring and training process could be wasted with a "standard con...

Re: Ca Broker Fee

I thought my post was clear. I said in CA if you are acting as an "agent", you may not charge a broker fee. Acting as a "broker" when I charge fees, I have the client sign a disclosure form. The form is not required for commerical lines yet. I have been advised not to charge a fl...

Re: Ca Broker Fee

Wow. In CA if you are acting as an "agent", you may not charge a broker fee. If you are acting as a "broker" for personal lines there is an approved broker fee form that can be downloaded from the Department of Insurance website. A broker fee form is required for personal lines, ...

Re: CA HO3 Loss Surcharges

Most insured losses are reported to "Choice Point" which most insurance companies access before issuing a policy. Always disclose prior losses. If the client has made a "remedy" that will prevent the loss from re-ocurring it will make the risk more acceptable. Documentation to ve...

Re: Two unrelated entities as named insured?

I can't imagine that a preferred company would want to include a lawyer and a lobbyist on what is probably a minium premium office type policy. Even if you could find a reasonable premium situation, it does not appear the Tom Jones would contribute premiums toward a joint policy. If you have not don...

Re: Lender Forced Coverage for Private Party

If there is still a policy, why can't the lender pay the premium. If he is listed as the loss payee, his interest is still protected. If the policy is cancelled, he might be able to make a deal with the owner to let him pay the premium. Otherwise should he not be able to foreclose on the house?

Re: Castle Inspections / High value inspections in general

D's response highlights the complexity that we agent's face in advising our client's about proper insurance values. When I provide values using a cost estimator. I point out that this is the suggested minimun values and may not represent the correct values at the time of the loss. I also include one...

Re: Castle Inspections / High value inspections in general

None of the post's have mentioned specifically demolition costs. You need to make sure that the client knows that fact. When the house is rebuilt, he has a custom house in terms of material and labor costs for replacing one house. I keep seeing articles that 70% of the homes throughout the country a...

State Fund usually quotes same day if you hand carry the app. I charge an additional broker fee for this type of service. If you use SCIF website to e-mail application. You can usually wait one day and find out who is the assigned underwriter and talk to the underwriter. I have never waited two week...

Re: Commercial Fraud

I am in agreement with pita3333 on this one. Unless you are dealing with a large risk, I am sure that one will be using a BOP policy. It is my expereince that one of the clauses contained therin is an exclusion for false pretense coverage which will exclude property coverage for that property you ha...
