Re: Here's one you don't see everyday - only in CA
Ok here's my take. The GL should be easy with the Products/Ops excluded... The 'blessing gone wrong' would have to be covered under seperate Misc. Professional Liability. This will be more difficult but I'm sure someone out there will do it "for the right price". And since there is no real...

Re: looking for some guidance on startup agency
qz4k5y, Here are some more thoughts. Someone once told me when I endeavored to do something on my own that an attorney usually does, "You're in danger because you don't even know what you don't know".. I think this strongly applies here. Because of your lack of experience in the field and ...

Re: Dealing with a possibly unethical customer
Rob, In this economy and market the last thing any broker wants to do is walk away from business. So it is with great surprise I read that you didn't just take him at his word and jump through hoops to get more business out of him....... SARCASM INTENDED! I say way to go, and I agree that it's highl...

Re: Guaranteed cost program versus self-insured group
Dog,
I'm not really at liberty to identify where I work but suffice it to say we've been in Ca. over 30 years as a full service agency and have over 100 employees.

Re: Guaranteed cost program versus self-insured group
My comments, Kudos to BBSI. I work at one of those 'Elite' agencies that places business through them. Our due diligence showed no red flags on their finanacials and we've been placing business there for quite awhile now without problems or concerns. I have a few clients in their program and they ne...

Re: WC for 5951 and 4512
Agree with Comp&Sense, more information necessary for a practical determination. I would also suggest contacting the WCIRB for classification assistance, they may be able to steer you in the proper direction over the phone or you might want to request an inspection for classification. Again you ...

Re: New producers
Here's what I've seen that I think works the best. The principle will assign a 'service' book of business from the existing agency pool for the new producer to "Service and cross sell". The book is established based on a set revenue amount it will generate for the producer and this becomes...

You might try Smith Bell & Thompson @ 800-735-1800.
They have a program for HME and DME distributors where I have placed a couple of my clients.
Also might try VGM, you'll have to Google them....
Good luck.

Re: How to ask for Testimonials....
Oh and here's another thought, If you were to receive some critical feedback with recommendations for improvement which can be and is/are immediately implemented, use that testimonial as well as your resolution/answer to the recommendation. This shows your commitment to listening to your clients and...

Re: How to ask for Testimonials....
Hi Youngbuck, Here's my two cents worth; I would consider using a different opening statement, not that I think there's really anything wrong with yours, but my approach would be slightly different. Instead of "We were wondering if you might be able to help us. We’re currently in the process of...

Re: getting started
I agree with the last post that specialization is a great way to set yourself apart from the crowd, have expertise that is [u]sought after. That said, marketing is really about differentiation. If there's competition in your area that you can't break through, you need to set yourself apart from that...

Re: Cold Calling
Here's my 2 cents; Cold calling relies solely on the "Law of Numbers" for any type of success. That said, you can legitimately expect pure cold calling to yield about 1 in 20-25 contacts with the decision makers. And further you can expect to garner interest from only about 1 in 10 of thos...

Re: Looking to hire a producer...need help
Ok MLs so here's my thinking; Based on your lack of direct markets and support staff, your best fit will be to find someone young and hungry that's newly licensed or find someone you can help get licensed. A student might even fit the bill for now. With a small weekly draw but strong comm splits you...

Re: Looking to hire a producer...need help
Here're some questions: 1) What type commercial accounts are you interested in soliciting, what lines? BOPs? GL, comp, auto......? What classes of operations....? 2) What experience level of producer? If looking for experienced but only writing BOPs you'll have a hard time finding a fit. If looking ...
