Re: Open Office Next to Geico

Don't get too excited yet..... GEICO's lease may have a "no compete" clause written into it. (We demanded this when we rented our office). Unless you offer products that GEICO doesn't (Commercial P & C) I would tread carefully.....Good Luck!! This looks like something that they (the G...

Re: How can a new agent obtain appointments?

MarinerFan707 - I left FIG in 1989 after seven years. I've been in the business for 29 years now. In general I agree with all of the posts here. I have one other additional recommendation if you have the wherewithal to strike out on your own. If you are looking for a preferred market, you might wan...

Re: Farmers E & O vs. UFAA

Admittedly, I wasn't thinking about the policy language... Just the deductibles. I also do not have the FIG group policy to review because that was taken with the FIG Agents guide that it was printed in - along with my manuals and FIG supplies when we parted company. Since E&O policies are compa...

Re: Farmers Insurance

Hello guys...! Is farmers insurance a good company to work for? I just got my license and am going to start with the company, but their are lots of negative reviews on working for this company, at the same time those reviews are old. I was told I can get a base pay after meeting expectations in thr...

Re: Farmers E & O vs. UFAA

I was a FIG agent from 1982-1989. What I remember of the E&O that we had then, was that there was no deductible if it was a FIG policy but a substantial $1,500 deductible for that time period for business placed outside of FIG. If that is still true and if that also encompasses Foremost, Bristol...

Re: Help pls - need info about property & casualty companies

I'm not familiar with the U.K. and the Markets (companies) available. In the U.S. we have a number of distribution flows ranging from Captive ( exclusive ) agents, Encumbered ( one primary co, requiring right of1st refusal ) agents and Independant agents ( representing multiple companies ) and the r...

Re: Pay As You Go rating

So CA has approved PAYG rating? Are they insane? We all know that credit profiling is the ONLY guaranteed way to determine loss potential. It is so accurate a predictor I am waiting for courts to allow judges and juries to use crdeit profiling to automatically determine guilt. ..........., Dar Nova...

Re: Danger in adding landlord as additional insured?

I don't know of any company that will agree to add a landlord (or apartment complex or builder, etc) as an Additional Insured to a property policy. That would provide coverage (including liability protection) to the AI which companies just aren't willing to do. They can usually just be added as an ...

Re: How do you become a CIC instructor?

Not sure how you get the job, probably just contact the Society in Austin, TX. The pay rate is around $1,200 for a full day or $600 for half a day. They also pay your travel expenses. That is not bad money for many, but for a good insurance agent, you could not afford to lose 2 days (travel to and ...

Re: Social Media

What would you all say are the greatest risks that an agent or broker has regarding his or her active participation in social media? A dissatisfied customer writes something unflattering on your Facebook wall or tweets about a bad claim experience. My question, once this does happen how should a si...

Re: Conflict of Interest

Why not put the business in their current agency as the writing agent? It would get them some experience in handling the sales side without the conflict. They obviously have asperations to have their own shop someday, but not the guts at this time, so this would be a good middle road. I clearly thi...

Re: Farmers Insurance

Kevin, I appointed with FIG in February 1982, I worked with them through February 1989, when we agreed to disagree and I terminated my appointment. What happened to me was that, in November of 1986, my son was diagnosed with Leukemia. In November of 1987 he was admitted to Doernbecher with pneumonia...
