Hi Jeanette,
Seems like it shouldn't be that difficult to cover even though he's not hauling with his own trucks.
Not sure if they'll help but you might try MPI in Fullerton. Call 714-525-5656 and ask for Karen. They do a good deal of trucking and might have the facilities to assist you!
If not maybe call Interline in Cerritos and ask for Eric, 800-229-8790. They have an exclusive trucking program and should be able to help you find placement if they can't do it themselves.

Good Luck!

The risk you describe is a difficult line of business within a speciality that should only be written by insurance brokers/agents familiar with for hire trucking operations. The exposure to the insurance company writing this is the hired auto. The insurer will have no control over who the "prime carrier" (owner of trailers) hirers to pull the trailers. If the operation is set up correctly the insurance company insuring the prime carrier should be in an excess postion but could be co-primary. Most insurance companies that write for hire trucking operations won't touch an account with this percentage of sub-haul exposure. Sometimes these types of risks are written by carriers because they don't know what they have because the agent submiting doesn't know. I commend you in doing the right thing by presenting all the facts. My suggestion would be to turn this over to a broker that specializes in for hire trucking operations, and one that also handles large fleets not just owner operators. Very few insurance companies are available to write this type of risk and the ones that are only do business with agents/brokers where this line of business is their specialty.

This does not appear to be too restrictive. The exposure is actually a trailer leasing operation as revenues are generated by leasing fees. If there is a brokerage operation, this can be done with a level of contingent liability and contingent cargo that supports the trucking operation which is hauling the products. Finally, the asset protection can be accomplished with the physical damage coverage to fundamentally protect the value of the trailers. Contact one of the agents associated with Great West Casualty in California.

Like Miguelito said, refer this guy to a Great West appointed agent in CA. If you're appointed to Great West (like us :D ), you are committed to trucking.

Trucking risks are a breed of their own.
