For a few months I have been playing around with a tool that may help simplify risk management for small businesses. It may also help agents, brokers, and consultants understand the concerns of their clients. Perhaps E&O exposures will be eliminated.
For years I have heard of the wonders of "Open-Source" work. Software seems to be the primary form of this development structure. Groups of smart users work together for the purpose of building something great and useful - Linux may be the best example. I have long wondered if there is a place in the insurance world for such.
I've built a risk list of perils and exposures. My idea is to open the list up to anyone who wants to use it - no fees or copyright limitations on use - except nobody can sell it.
In return for the use of the list I'd like feedback on the contents and the usability of the list. Your feedback will improve the tool over time.
I know what I have made is not exhaustive. Just yesterday a friend suggested I add the peril of mine subsidence. I'm sure there are other changes. Perhaps the whole format of the list is wrong. That's why I want smart people to help - to build something anyone can use to better understand their risks.
The list is located here - http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dfj35zp8_0hnrztd.
I have also put together a blog where users can post comments and suggestions. You can also email me with ideas. The blog is at - http://scottsrisklist.blogspot.com/.
