Those who get an Insurance Education have a competitive edge

Post by AgencyEquity »

There are a number of producer schools that can help educate you about both sales and product training. This is very different than any pre-licensing training you may have had before, as most pre-license courses focus on legal principals and passing the exam. Product training does exactly what it says — it educates you on the many different types of insurance policies and what they cover. This is especially important for those who:

1. Have previous experience running a captive agency
2. Have only sold personal lines
3. Are new to the business
4. Are experience, but want to brush up on their knowledge
5. Those who want to add knowledge and get a designation

You truly want to know your own product if you are to set yourself apart from the competition and win more accounts, especially higher premium accounts. Here is a list of producer schools:

Insurance Continuing Education isn't only for renewal of your license. This is also a great step to enhance your skills, knowledge and be updated with currents trends and developments in Insurance industry. This will also help Insurance professionals to get an opportunity of being hired by reputable Insurance Agencies and companies.

My experience with insurance producers is that a pretty good percentage believe that continuing education training is a nuisance and see no real value. I think the state insurance departments who made CE training courses mandatory had some very good ideas but, unfortunately, it is difficult to mandate professionalism. Our experience with online training is that procrastinators are the rule rather than the exception.

Having these trainings and courses do give you an edge. However, if you are doing well and have the persuasive powers to sell a policy, then there's really no need for the long courses and trainings.

I agree. But still, insurance continuing education courses are still important for brokers or agents so they can renew and retain their license in the state they are working in.

Take a look at the websire of the AIMS Society. I am Treasurer, and have been involved with AIMS for a long time.
We have a program to help agents learn prospecting and selling skills, etc. Very worthwhile.

If getting an insurance education will help agents retain their licenses, then I guess it would be important for them to obtain this. You wouldn't want your source of income to be taken away from you just because you failed to take these courses and trainings.
