We currently have an opportunity available for a Chief Claims Counsel to join our Claims Legal team at our corporate office in Plymouth, MN, located at 605 Highway 169 North. The Chief Claim Counsel directs, plans, and monitors all operations and activities relating to claims legal and internal staff counsel program. This position is responsible for developing, communicating and implementing strategy, policies and practices for all claims litigation as well as offering advice and counsel regarding coverage for OneBeacon's policies and any litigation arising from coverage disputes. Additionally, the Chief Claims Counsel will monitor, review and strategize with claims managers regarding all extra contractual. This position manages a staff of highly qualified claims legal experts and reports directly to the Chief Claims Officer.

1. Provides advice and counsel for OneBeacon's insurance policies and any litigation arising from coverage disputes to all levels of the organization.
2. Monitors existing coverage litigation, including extra contractual exposures, and reports on a quarterly basis.
3. Has ultimate authority to negotiate all extra contractual exposures.
4. Directs decisions in compliance with state laws.
5. Responsible for the oversight and development of the staff counsel program which provides legal representation and defense counsel for insureds.
6. Sets the direction and implementation of claims litigation strategy and coverage determination. Is recognized in the company as the subject matter expert on all related matters.
7. Communicates and participates in high level meetings, including with the Senior Executive Team on a monthly and quarterly basis. Maintains high level relationships. Effectively communicates strategic direction of the Claims Legal Group to internal and external audiences.
8. Maintains a strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments and applies this information effectively.
9. Directs, manages, and develops staff and other Managers. This includes goal setting, assessment, staff selection, role alignment and completion of performance appraisals. Responsible for overall communication of goals and priorities.

Education and Experience:
• JD required.
• 10+ years of insurance litigation, insurance claims and bad faith experience.
• Partner-level experience in a national insurance litigation law firm or similar position with an insurance company strongly preferred.
• Minimum 5-7 Supervisory/Management years of experience.
