We are searching for our next Director of Employee Benefits. This is a key position that reports to the CEO. This person is responsible for the management and direction of the Employee Benefits Customer Service, and Third Party Administration (TPA) departments. They will promote an environment of strong and progressive customer service standards to meet customer satisfaction and retention goals and manage carrier relationships.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Confer with organization executives or staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.
  • Analyze operations to evaluate performance of a department or its staff in meeting objectives or to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
  • Direct, plan, or implement policies, objectives, or activities of organizations or businesses to ensure continuing operations, to maximize returns on investments, and/or to increase productivity.
  • Prepare budgets for approval, including those for funding or implementation of programs.
  • Direct or coordinate activities of departments concerned with production, pricing, and retention.
  • Negotiate and/or approve contracts or agreements with suppliers, distributors, or other vendors.
  • Review reports submitted by staff members to recommend approval or to suggest changes.
  • Appoint department heads or managers and assign or delegate responsibilities to them.
  • Prepare or present reports concerning activities, expenses, budgets, or other items affecting departments or program services.
  • Establish departmental responsibilities and coordinate functions among departments and sites.
  • Implement corrective action plans to solve departmental problems.
  • Coordinate the development or implementation of recordkeeping systems, or other administrative control processes.
  • Maintain strong, professional working relationships with insurance carriers, MGAs and other vendors.
  • Act as an advisor to customer service staff regarding projects, tasks and service related problems.

May accompany and assist customer service staff with off-site presentations

  • Strong technology aptitude and computer skills Strategic and Critical Thinking abilities
  • Able to juggle many projects and competing deadlines

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or other appropriate field and/or
  • 3+ years experience in Employee Benefits with increasing responsibilities including supervising the operations of a departmental unit
  • California Life & Health Insurance License Required
  • Valid California Driver's License with satisfactory insurance and driving record Required

Additional consideration given for experience in working or volunteers in the nonprofit sector or insuring nonprofits.
