Department Summary

The Data, Discovery and Decision Science (D3) department leverages data and analytics to help the enterprise make data driven decisions that improve business processes, create great customer experiences, and deliver on our corporate priorities. D3 is responsible for supporting business units across the Allstate Family of Companies (AFC) with a broad portfolio of data, research, and analytical products and solutions. A fast-growing team of highly skilled professionals, D3 provides a unique learning environment through formal training curriculum, mentoring, coaching, challenging hands-on assignments, and a collaborative culture as we develop the analytical experts and leaders of tomorrow.

Role Summary

As part of the analytics Portfolio & Operations Management organization in D3, Business Analytics Consultants (BACs) use a mix of business consulting, technical, and solution implementation skills to help D3 deliver on our commitments. In a highly technical environment, we are relied upon to provide business, communication, and project execution expertise to bridge the gap between business problems and technical (both data and analytic) solutions. Our mission is to maximize (and accelerate) the business value of data & analytics while developing the leaders of tomorrow. The D3 BAC Consultant I position is a junior-level consultant position that will use business and technical acumen to support the development of data and analytical processes, solutions, and products in alignment with a business or data platform focused area. The Jr. BAC is responsible for clear communication among stakeholders and ensuring project(s)/product(s) are fulfilling all agreed upon criteria when delivered. Additionally, the BAC Analyst will be exposed to the ins and outs of developing data strategies and products for predictive analytic applications, fundamental skills of big data, data science and statistical learning methods, and agile delivery methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

This is a general BAC position for assignment to a team developing either analytics or data solutions. Technical exposure or experience in data science and data platform development is a plus.

Identify and prioritize new opportunities for analytics through the following business consulting responsibilities:

  • Strategy, Business, & Process Consulting: Develops a good tactical understanding of core business problems, processes, and data lineage.
  • Looks for opportunities to use advanced analytics or develop data solutions.
  • Supports in identifying where data and analytics could be leveraged in order to make key business decisions. Supports activities to develop strategies and identify high priority initiatives.
  • Experimentation, Research & Innovation: Keeps up with industry and technology developments to identify new analytic tools, methods, and techniques relevant to business needs. Contributes to an enterprise testing mindset, and experiments where possible.
  • Relationship Management & Communication: Supports efforts to build new relationships and maintain current relationships with business stakeholders both internal and external of D3.
  • Assists to ensure collaboration, transparency, alignment, and engagement across the stakeholder landscape.
  • Program Coordination: Supports the management and coordination of resources to match the development of analytics solutions to business timelines, value goals, and outcomes.
  • Supports the integration of delivery structures.
  • Helps teams identify and resolve challenges.

Implement and operationalize analytical insights, products and solutions through the following technical and solution implementation responsibilities:

Agile Program Execution: With direction, supports moderately complex projects/products and is responsible for coordinating activities for smaller/lower impact projects/products from ideation to delivery in an Agile framework, with an emphasis on measurable, value add deliverables.

Technical Support of Analytics Development Life Cycle:

  • Supports high level model/data product design by providing Data Scientists and Engineers with business requirements, creating data visualizations, and providing an understanding of data domains and their impact to the business.
  • Data Visualization & Storytelling: Understands the fundamentals of data visualization and develops solutions using technical tools like Tableau and storytelling techniques in order to effectively communicate and supports the connection of data and analytics solutions to business priorities for non-technical audiences.
  • Implementation & User Adoption: Supports the development and execution of change management action plans. Supports putting data and analytics into production through coordination and subject matter knowledge.

Job Qualifications

*This role is in the Information Technology domain and requires IT experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Studies related to statistics/mathematics, engineering, predictive analytics or data science is a plus
  • 1-2 years of related analytics, consulting, project management, or equivalent experience

  • Possess quantitative and analytical thinking skills

  • Demonstrate business acumen to support consulting efforts with business clients

  • Project and Program Management skills, including working with timelines to drive work to completion

  • Experience with analytical tools, such as SQL, R, Python and Tableau

  • Ability to make sound decisions utilizing problem solving approaches and decision frameworks
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into meaningful conclusions and recommendations to business clients
  • Ability to support routine analysis
  • Effectively communicate concepts, tools and techniques
  • Has strong aptitude to understand Allstate systems and data in order to provide guidance to business clients 
  • Ability to perform in a fast paced, dynamic and ambiguous business environment
  • Ability to support data and technical projects
  • Ability to revise tactics to support changing strategies and direction
  • Ability to inspire trust among peers and business clients to build strong relationships
  • Strong presentation skills
