Job Description

Allstate Business Insurance (ABI) is a $1 billion operation with more than 300 employees. It offers property and casualty products to meet the insurance needs primarily for small business owners. ABI utilizes multiple channels to distribute its’ products, including Allstate Exclusive Agents and Independent Agents.

 

Allstate Business Insurance has transformed its’ organization in order to position itself for growth in the Commercial Market Sector, clearly focusing product development and distribution on Customer needs and the Customer experience.

 

Reporting to the President of Allstate Business Insurance, the Vice President, Product and Underwriting will be responsible for all aspects of product management including the design, delivery and maintenance of core commercial products.  Leading a team with broad functional expertise this leader will drive strategy and execution of leading-edge product development and underwriting programs to ensure the long-term growth of Allstate Business Insurance.

Accountabilities
  • All aspects of product management including the design, delivery and maintenance of core commercial products as well as researching, identifying and developing new products and services that meet the current and emerging needs of our commercial customers
  • Bring innovative leadership to create profitable growth through line management, pricing, underwriting and state management
  • Look into the marketplace and work closely with operations to identify trends for new ideas and strategies that can give ABI a competitive advantage
  • Instill a culture of innovation, performance, and accountability in the business unit and build a strong talent management capability to develop existing employees and attract top outside professionals
  • Country-Wide Operations for Automobile, Property (CPP and BOP), as well as new product lines, Business Insurance Center process/workflow design
  • Successfully lead geographically dispersed and remote teams, driving results through effective virtual leadership
  • Motivate and provides leadership to team members and ensure the proper allocation of employees to the highest priority deliverables; ensure employees have the appropriate structure, tools, resources, required to perform their job at the highest levels
  • Engage in any other duties as assigned to advance the profitable growth of Allstate’s Business Insurance
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a corresponding talent strategy to ensure the team has the right skills and capabilities to execute against the business strategy
  • Establish clear goals for operational execution
  • Manage operating plan, budget, cash flow and business finances
  • Partner with the other members of the Allstate organization to execute on strategies
  • Ensure company objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by management and the employees
  • Ensure that the business complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and, where appropriate, best practices
  • Establish, achieve, and report on milestones       
Job Qualifications
  • Wealth of experience in small commercial lines, primarily the ability to create and deploy compelling commercial products, Non-auto experience is a must
  • Relevant functional experience regarding underwriting, distribution, marketing, service, and claims is a plus
  • Strong leadership experience is required, as is an instinctive ability to understand and be effective in building relationships; Ability to lead a large employee group of at least 100 including highly skilled insurance professionals
  • A strong intellect, natural curiosity and high level of confidence but controlled ego and must have had success scaling a line of business.  He/she will be adept at quickly building relationships of trust and respect and will be known as an expert in commercial insurance
  • A strategic orientation with ability to articulate a vision for the Commercial business and lead the implementation of an action plan to realize its great potential for profitable growth

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. Advanced degree in business or related field is strongly preferred
