The Communications Lead Consultant helps develop, implement, manage and measure communication programs and plans for the department that help accelerate Allstate’s competitive advantage through reputation, increase confidence in Allstate’s business strategy and create a more purpose-driven culture. They build and sustain strong relationships with others within and outside the department, and across many leadership levels.


Key Responsibilities

⦁ Communication Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement short- and long-range communication plans reaching one or more of the seven key Allstate stakeholders (employees, consumers, customers, agency force, opinion leaders, policy makers and investors), with a goal to improve Allstate’s reputation overall and by individual stakeholder.

⦁ Strategic Communication Counsel for Business Areas and Leaders (as required by specific role): Support Director, Corporate Relations, in providing strategic communication counsel to business leaders. As required, serve as a liaison between the department and other business areas, business partners and/or internal/external partners and vendors. Partner, as appropriate, with enterprise communication teams to guide and influence communication plans. Use interpersonal influence to build relationships and support communication plans.

⦁ Data-Driven Planning: Research and use stakeholder data and analytics insights to inform communication plans and tactics and monitor and measure the effectiveness of communication plans; provide and implement recommendations for enhancements based on insights.

⦁ Content Creation and External Media Relations: With a mindset of curiosity, find story ideas that help raise awareness of Allstate as an innovative, customer-centric and caring company. Work with the PR/media team to develop and pitch content and secure placement in traditional and social media channels (owned, earned and paid), and on internal communication platforms, as appropriate.

⦁ Champion of Culture: Help develop and/or support communication strategies and tactics to create an inclusive, empowering, and purpose-driven corporate culture aligned to Allstate’s corporate narrative. Demonstrate a positive, open and flexible mindset during times of change and encourage others through change.

⦁ Project Management: Work as part of a team to develop, coordinate and execute communication plans and projects. Work collaboratively and integrate with team members, including across other teams or business areas. Meets deadlines and adjust to shifting priorities.

⦁ Resource Allocation and Budget Management: Assist in management of project and program budgets, including monthly forecasts, according to department expectations and corporate policies.

⦁ Government Relations and Public Affairs (as required by specific role): Help lead the execution of plans in support of public policy and regulatory initiatives that impact the insurance and financial industry


Job Qualifications

Education and Experience
⦁ Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communication, marketing, journalism or related field.
⦁ 5-7 years of experience in corporate communication or public relations preferred; insurance or financial services business acumen a plus.

Functional Skills
⦁ Strategic Communication Planning: Experience setting communication plan objectives and developing outcome-focused plans; ability to research topics and ideas and use data and analytics to inform planning; measuring, analyzing and modifying plans.
⦁ Reputation and Brand Management: Understanding of reputation and brand management, with ability to recommend potential strategies and incorporate them into plans that protect and build the brand’s reputation with multiple stakeholders.
⦁ Communication Skills: Understanding of stakeholders and how to communicate effectively through written, multimedia, digital and in-person communications. Experience with some leading-edge communication techniques or technologies. Knowledge of Associated Press style. Ability to write for influence, using creative/persuasive writing techniques. Highly proficient in Word and PowerPoint.
⦁ Interpersonal and Team Skills: Ability to work effectively as a member or leader of a team. Can easily establish new relationships and build rapport, and effectively and positively influence team members. Can adapt behavior to engage and influence others, particularly leaders.
⦁ Media Relations and Issues Management: Experience identifying and elevating potential issues that may negatively affect the brand and providing strategic counsel and effective communication support during a crisis.
⦁ Business Acumen: Knowledge of the insurance and financial services industry. Knowledge of global and macroeconomic trends. Understanding of Allstate’s business and our varied distribution channels a plus.
⦁ Critical Thinking and Change Agility: Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, able to help identify root causes and obstacles behind issues or needs, consider stakeholder reactions and offer potential communication solutions. Effectively support self and others through change, demonstrating flexibility and confidence amid ambiguity.
⦁ Project Management: Proficient in creating work plans to organize project into tasks, sequencing activities for maximum efficiency, estimating and managing time and budget required to complete tasks. Identifies issues and adapts plan as needed while remaining committed to project deadlines and timelines.


Compensation Data

The minimum salary for this position is $75,900. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
