Job Summary

The Allstate Payroll Team (APT) is accountable for numerous HR activities related to payroll, SAP HCM, vendor management, project support, and project management. SAP Security is responsible for overall security design and operations for Allstate’s SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) installation

The Payroll Manager position is responsible for successfully leading ongoing operations of specific HR business processes. The role requires a high level of leadership combined with subject matter expertise within the payroll and SAP security process areas. This role works with internal business partners and outsourced vendors to ensure that processes are executed consistent with existing contracts, corporate policies and guidelines, and regulatory/legal requirements. The role will lead projects of high complexity or daily operations with significant impact to the enterprise.

Actual day-to-day payroll operations are conducted by a third party under the governance of the APT. SAP Security is conducted by two staff members and responsible for all HCM SAP security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute the business strategy for the APT
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the APT and clients throughout the enterprise for day to day operations and related projects as they occur
  • Leverage the knowledge and skills of managers and teams of professionals to fulfill the enterprise’s operational needs in the areas of payroll and other payroll related data management responsibilities. This includes:
  • Vendor manage Allstate’s third party payroll/EDM/Garnishment Vendor (IBM)
  • Work with disparate areas of Human Resources and other areas of Allstate (i.e. Tax, Treasury, Law and Regulations, Compliance, etc) as a subject matter expert and consultants to enable their initiatives
  • Act as the voice of Payroll within the enterprise
  • Vendor management of various payroll vendors including ADP (Payroll tax reporting and remittance), Equifax (Unemployment management, Employment and Salary verification), BSI (Payroll tax rate and logic updates)
  • Create, maintain, and monitor controls over payroll processes and providers.
  • Create, maintain, and monitor controls over SAP transactional and data access to protect confidential information and ensure appropriate segregations of duties.
  • Identify opportunities for enterprise improvements to payroll processes and make appropriate recommendations to HR leadership.
  • Leverage quantitative, qualitative, and trend data to draw conclusions and help drive business results
  • Identifies internal and external sources of information
  • Recognizes gaps in processes and recommends holistic solutions
  • Anticipates operational issues and develops preventative measures
  • Build and maintain cross functional partnerships
  • Clearly articulates point-of view, taking into account the perspective of all related parties
  • Adapts communications techniques for audiences at multiple internal and external levels
  • Ability to foster a team environment
  • Build consensus using diversity of opinion in making decisions
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in HR and/or Accounting
  • 5+ years of SAP (HR) experience highly desired
  • 5+ years of broad payroll experience highly desired
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • Leadership and business expertise
  • Prior knowledge of the organization, processes and customers preferred
  • Advanced time management skills, including ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize and organize
  • Good business writing skills
  • Ability to establish, manage and leverage relationships with internal and external partners
  • Creative thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence a broad audience verbally and in written format
  • Demonstrated ability to offer differing points of view to solutions.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and facilitation skills including good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience as technology SME/power user and familiarity with systems related to payroll, such as general ledger accounting.

The minimum salary for this position is $91,800 and has a 10% bonus target. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
