The Role

As a Data Analyst within our Health Analytics Practice, you will report to your local consulting office, with a matrix relationsip to the Practice Division Leader or other Senior Health Analytics staff. Your primary focus will be as a core analyst on Health Analytics projects. You will help execute cost and utilization analyses designed to improve our clients’ health plan performance. Your role on individual projects will include elements such as data validation, data extracts, conducting focused analyses, developing summary information for client presentations, developing quarterly and annual reports, and other activities. You will work with tools from Willis Towers Watson’s preferred Health Care Data Warehousing partners (such as IBM Watson Health, Cotiviti, and others) to pull and summarize reports. You may also work with data and tools from our clients’ insurance carriers and/or program vendors. You may have opportunities to support new business development opportunities both with existing Willis Towers Watson clients and prospects. You may also contribute to product development activities for the practice. Finally, you will interact with other members of our North American Health Analytics network, and can make important contributions to the practice’s continuing product development and process improvements.

Performance Objectives:


  • Deliver analytic projects to target Willis Towers Watson clients. In achieving your individual goals and objectives you will help the firm achieve performance goals of the Health Analytics Practice (revenue, profit, and market share)
    • Maintain an appropriate billable hour target through active roles delivering projects to clients
    • Participate, as assigned, in other projects, such as new business efforts and/or product development work


  • Serve as a core data analyst on client projects. Project types may include:
    • Measurement strategy
    • Ongoing performance management through data warehouse tools
    • Pre/post program implementation ROI analyses
    • Key cost driver analysis
    • Population health analysis
    • Scorecard development
    • Provider network analysis
  • Continue developing individual skills and competencies to broaden and deepen analytics expertise
  • Support internal product and process development activities
  • Ensure appropriate execution of all Professional Excellence/quality assurance activities


  • Actively participate in assigned client projects; specific role on projects to be determined
  • For ongoing data warehouse clients, be an active, continuing member of client team
  • Support new business development activity or other roles as needed


  • Work closely with other members of the Health Analytics practice network
  • Partner with other data analysts and consultants assigned to client projects and internal development activities
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders within Willis Towers Watson’s matrix structure, including: local office consultants, members of other specialty practices, other Willis Towers Watson consultants and account directors

The Requirements

  • Growth mindset, desire and ability to learn and be flexible
  • Understanding of commercial health care plan designs
  • Understanding of HIPAA requirements and general data security protocols
  • Exposure to progressive health care and productivity related analytic techniques
  • Recent experience with deep, data driven health and group benefit solutions to premier clients, preferably gained in a data warehouse organization, health benefits consulting or brokerage environment, health insurance carrier, managed care organization or another leading health care provider
  • Expertise with commercial data warehouse and/or carrier tools (e.g., IBM Watson Health, Optum, Cotiviti, HDMS…)
  • Current experience and expertise with technical MS Office tools such as Excel, Access and Powerpoint
  • Ability to work effectively in highly matrixed environment
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • A business/consulting presence with well developed written and oral communication skills
  • Adherence to the firm’s and the Health Analytic practice’s Professional Excellence standards around all client deliverables
  • Flexibility with regard to travel that can range from 0% to 20%

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation and benefits information for this position is being included in accordance with requirements of the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Please note that the salary range listed relate specifically to roles located in Colorado and that salary ranges for similar positions located in other Willis Towers Watson locations may vary. In addition, salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to individual competencies, education/professional certifications, experience and performance in the role.


The salary compensation range being offered for this role is $69,400 - $128,750.
This role is also eligible for an annual short-term incentive bonus.
