Job Description Summary
National Accounts is looking to hire a group of Accounts Executives in several locations to participate in the National Accounts Development Initiative (NADI). If you have 2-5 years of casualty underwriting experience, we will combine comprehensive on-boarding, on-the-job training, webinars and formal classroom training to prepare you to manage large loss sensitive accounts for Southern California territory.
You will learn about the National Accounts business and products, loss sensitive underwriting and consultative/strategic selling. After completing this core training, you will continue working with your Managing Director and an assigned Underwriting Coach and Sales Coach toward managing your own accounts.
Account Executives in National Accounts gather and research pertinent information and then use analytical skills to evaluate the acceptability of business and institutional risk. However, Account Executives are more than just analysts and underwriters. They utilize strong interpersonal skills to build solid partnerships with our brokers and clients. They are responsible for managing a profitable portfolio of business and building strategic partnerships.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and price accounts in support of strategic business planning activities designed to increase the presence of National Accounts in the market; retain the appropriate mix of business; and achieve overall growth and profit objectives.
    Respond to underwriting and marketing strategies and standards by developing a marketing plan that reflects local market competitive conditions and, at the same time, meets growth and profit goals.
    Ensure that production and underwriting objectives with respect to profitability are achieved.


    Marketing and underwriting responsibilities include but are not limited to: Meeting with broker and clients to maintain and develop positive and productive relationships. In this capacity, assures that our contractual commitments are met and negotiates programs of insurance. Representing the company and our underwriting strategy in the location(s) to brokers, agents, employees and the community.

    Uses consultative selling approach to market products to agent and brokers. Identifies and captures new business opportunities and working with other business units as appropriate to support market penetration objectives and seeks out cross-sell opportunities.
    Maintain the highest level of customer service.
    Assist in the delivery of excellent account administration services.
    Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal resources (e.g., Risk Control, Claim, Operations, RMIS, etc.) to ensure delivery of all related services to clients.
    Perform all functions to support profit, growth and expense management goals.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2 years of Account Executive/underwriting experience required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • College degree preferred.

    Typically has 2-5 years of relevant casualty underwriting experience with agent/broker experience.


    Industry/Business Knowledge:

    Demonstrates an understanding of the local insurance marketplace.

    Continuously seeks out market insight.

    Product Knowledge:

    Understands organizational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in day-to-day work activities.


Licensing or Certificates
  • Valid drivers license or alternate means of personal transportation.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies
Uses knowledge of internal and external factors impacting the property/casualty industry to make decisions.

Knowledge of workers’ compensation, auto and general liability.

Experience managing mid-to-large size commercial accounts.

Successful completion of an underwriting training program.

Successful Travelers experience as an AAE or AE.

Identifies current or future problems or opportunities, analyzes, synthesizes and compares information to understand issues, identifies cause/effect relationships and explores alternative solutions to support sound decision making.

Additional Information
  • The salary range in Colorado for this position is $84,300 to $126,500.
