The Investments External Reporting team is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment information to support external filings made by The Allstate Corporation.

Job Summary
The External Reporting Associate Manager is responsible for managing staff on the External Reporting team and to provide broad oversight to systems and controls that appropriately mitigate operational risks. The External Reporting Associate Manager is a key leader within the Investments Accounting function and is expected to have an advanced understanding of external reporting requirements and identify and leverage opportunities to improve throughput, reduce operational and financial risks and improve controls.

Key Responsibilities

 Monitor team capacity and prioritize team focus
 Set team member goals, develop employee skills and provide constructive feedback
 Participate in determining longer-term team priorities and lead team toward achievement
 Mold team culture and motivate to achieve optimal performance from direct and indirect reports

 Provide status, risk assessments, and performance metrics to Senior Management
 Define and communicate changing policies and procedures to ensure compliance
 Build cross-functional partnerships
 Clearly articulate point-of-view, taking into account the perspective of all related parties
 Foster a collaborative team environment

 Be the liaison between Investments and Corporate Accounting to provide feedback (i.e., review comments and specific edits) on external filings (e.g., Forms 10Q/K, audited financial statements, investor supplement schedules, earnings press release, statutory annual statements, etc). This position will have primary responsibility for statutory filings and deliverables.
 Build strong internal relationships with other cross-functional leaders such as Investment Operations, Front Office Traders, Corporate Accounting, Tax, Operational Accounting and Compliance to surface and effectively troubleshoot issues and questions that arise during close and reporting
 Oversee day to day external reporting processes that support the monthly and quarterly close. Examples include analysis and review of support information to be included in monthly close schedules and other statutory deliverables (investment interrogatories, Insurance Department surveys, etc.)
 Identify and Assess significant control, timing and information risks and suggest remediation plans to management
 Control risk – risk that controls around process are not sufficient to ensure the information prepared correctly
 Timing risk - the ability to complete the required work within reporting deadlines
 Reporting risk –preparing reports incorrectly (e.g., incorrect interpretation of reporting rules/requirements
 Own and be accountable for execution of team’s responsibilities – primarily the timely completion of investment schedules and reports to support the external reporting requirements of the various Allstate reporting entities on a GAAP and statutory basis
 Recognize opportunities for innovation and process improvements. Recommend and execute process improvements as appropriate. Examples include process efficiencies, new data sources or workflows, enhancements to data summarization processes, etc.


 5-10+ years of professional accounting/reporting experience; Investment accounting and reporting experience and SEC reporting preferred
 Previous experience with Statutory Annual Statement preparation preferred
 2+ years of managing professional staff preferred
 Accounting/Finance degree required
 CPA/MBA candidate preferred
 Microsoft Excel, Access and SAP skills
 Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines
 Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances
 Problem solving and decision making skills
 Working knowledge of management principles and techniques
 Excellent oral and written communication skills to all levels of staff and management
 Excellent analytical and issue resolution skills
 Strong knowledge of GAAP and Statutory reporting requirements for investments
