Job Summary

LOCATION : Charlotte, NC OR Irving, TX OR Northbrook, IL OR REMOTE within United States

TIMING: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Central Time

The Data & Intelligent Systems within Allstate is a world-class technology organization  focused on enabling Allstate to become a leader in the technology and data space. We are looking for a highly-skilled Engineering Manager to join one of the most visible projects within the company: the Unstructured Data Platform. 80% of the world’s data is in unstructured form; Allstate is looking to tap into the potential that processing and analyzing this data could unlock.

This role will have high visibility, great potential for growth, and a distinct opportunity to make a major impact within our industry.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the Engineering and DevOps teams for the Unstructured Data Platform project
  • Work closely with the business steakholders to align on prioritization and product delivery approach
  • Work hand in hand with our Solution Architecture team in order to understand technical requirements and to effectively translate/break them down into actionable tasks for the delivery team
  • Manage a complicated ecosystem with multiple stakeholders involved including Clients, Business Ownership, Security and Operational Readiness teams
  • Own the delivery processes including software engineering best practices, CI/CD approach, Scrum Agile cycle, client communication approach, and extensive product documentation
  • Manage the hiring process including creation of job descriptions, interviewing approach, and working with our talent acquisition team
  • Manage vendor onboarding processes
  • Participate in both tactical and strategic estimation and capacity/resource planning for new product delivery
  • Develop a deep understanding of the core components used within the platform and how these interface with other internal systems
  • Manage the production deployment process and perform 24x7 on-call support as a secondary in the on-call rotation
Job Qualifications


Bachelors degree or equivalent experience


  • 7+ years of IT experience in large scale enterprise environment within Agile
  • 5+ years of hands on coding experience in any object oriented language like Java or .Net or C# or Python, etc.
  • 2+ years leading software engineering teams of upto 5 people
  • Strong knowledge of database concepts like: Data Integrity, ACID, indexing, partitioning
  • Experience with networking concepts including: TCP/IP, UDP, streaming, routing, latency vs throughput
  • Experience developing large-scale distributed applications
  • Experience working with high-throughput systems
  • Ability to cooperate in a cross-functional team environment spread across many departments, while driving for desired outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability in leading teams to effectively execute against multiple competing priorities
Preferred Skills
  • Good knowledge of Version One
  • Good knowledge of AWS or another cloud provider
  • Hands on experience with Cloud Foundry
  • Experience with event driven architectures
Compensation Data

The salary range for this position is $110,000-$150,000/yr plus up to 10% yearly bonus potential

Salary offered will be commensurate with experience and skills required

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
