Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for leading the Line Management function for BI Auto. Other responsibilities include performance management, competitor & market analysis, financial line leadership, and helping to influence business strategies related to the product line. This includes but is not limited to State/Region analyses, business case development & post monitoring, understanding macroeconomic drivers, quarterly earnings support, portfolio mix & appetite steering, and other related activities. This position has an understanding broader than their product line and can recognize how certain trends would have an impact not only on their line, but other lines within BI. They ensure that the creation of Product strategies aligns with underwriting strategies by collaborating with BU's & Markets, Enterprise and BI Underwriting, Field teams, Actuarial, and others, and subsequently manages execution of those strategies (countrywide). In partnership with the product line VP, proactively assists in the development of the line of business financial strategies at a countrywide level. They also collaborate, partner, and influence markets to understand the line of business strategy, incorporating market and state level dynamics. Responsible for talent development, resource planning and assignments to ensure work is delivered on time with a high degree of quality. Strong leadership, talent development, resource management, insurance product knowledge, strategic orientation and operational effectiveness capabilities are critical to the success of this position. Leads the Line Management team in the capacity of a manager of managers and/or individual contributors.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strategy:
  • Assess, prioritize, influence and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders
  • Foster an environment for effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects
  • Be a leader of change and innovation
  • This position will lead assigned unit strategic initiatives and cross-unit initiatives and is expected to participate in Enterprise initiatives
  • Operational:
  • Perform and lead line management analyses to solve business problems and apply judgment appropriately
  • Drive day-to-day execution within unit. Drive broad department initiatives
  • Promote efficiency and identify appropriate resource needs across primary working group, balancing additional effort against incremental lift gained from work
  • Make decisions independently in accordance with Segment practices
  • Consistently provide direction and review others' work
  • Translate ambiguous business needs into solutions
  • Provide support as necessary for initiatives across the Enterprise within the scope of influence
  • Communication:
  • Communicates on a regular basis with staff, peers, business partners, and often with senior leaders
  • Proficient at tailoring communication of production, analysis, project results, and other business initiatives to audience
  • Proficient at communicating topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Leads group discussions with multiple disciplines or responsibility levels
  • Proficient at creating formal written communication such as memos or presentations
  • Influences and collaborates with peers and partners to take actions to enhance business outcomes
  • Talent:
  • Staff responsibilities are likely to include direct management of a team of managers and individual contributors

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience in data analytics
  • 1 year managing others required

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Bachelors degree in Business Management, Mathematics, Management Information, Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics or other related field
  • Masters degree or Actuarial designation
  • 6 years of product management experience
  • Thorough Property & Casualty industry knowledge
  • Experience in senior level "general management" functions
  • Typically has in depth knowledge/experience in one Business Insurance product line
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Pricing, Actuarial techniques, and financial management

Licensing or Certificates

  • Preferred: CPCU, IIA, FCAS or other recognized insurance designations (examples: ARM, CIC)
