Job Summary

The Life Accounting unit within Finance Shared Services, Allstate, located in Northbrook, IL, seeks a motivated accounting professional with broad variable products accounting knowledge and experience to be part of a dynamic, team-based work environment.  As part of Allstate's Finance Shared Service, individuals will have the opportunity to work on moderately complex accounting activities related to variable life and variable annuity products, including preparation of journal entries, financial reports and analysis of related financial accounting data. The position provides the opportunity to interact with the Allstate Life and Retirement business unit, Corporate Accounting and Allstate Life and Retirement Finance teams. 

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in accounting involving monthly/quarterly and annual close processes, preparation of annual Separate Account GAAP and statutory financial statements and financial statement analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply GAAP and Statutory accounting principles to the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries and reporting
  • Prepare and coordinate quarterly fund reconciliations and annual Separate Accounts GAAP financial statements
  • Prepare quarterly Statutory Separate Account financial statements, including analysis thereof
  • Review and evaluate moderately complex issues and analyze accounting information
  • Identify, develop and apply ideas and approaches to moderately complex issues to solve problems and accomplish goals
  • Assist in coordination of internal and external audits of Separate Accounts GAAP financial statements
  • Substantiate and validate the identification and documentation of account reconciliations
  • Plan, implement and manage small-scale projects
  • Demonstrate consistency in values, principles and work ethic
     
Job Qualifications

  ↵Education

  • BS Degree in Accounting 
  • CPA a plus


Experience

  • 2+ years of related accounting experience required
  • Life and annuity insurance product knowledge a plus
  • Familiarity with SAP accounting software a plus


Personal traits and requirements

  • Must be well organized and self-motivated with ability to meet deadlines 
  • PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and advanced spreadsheet skills required
  • Attention to details
  • Efficient worker with good communications skills
  • Work effectively both in a team environment and independently
  • Deal effectively with ambiguity, change and adapt appropriately to a range of situations that are deadline driven
