Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$80,400.00 - $132,700.00

What Is the Opportunity?

This role is part of International’s Expense Analysis team. Finance Manager role with accountability for expense reporting, analysis, and forecasting within the International business unit. The role will focus on the Canadian and International home office operations as well as insight on overall International expenses.

The ideal candidate will have strong financial skills with the ability to dig into details and summarize findings as well as effectively communicate with leaders across a variety of functions to help drive and achieve better expense insight. This position will supervise one staff member and serve as a team leader across International finance.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • Monthly and quarterly reporting & analysis of expenses. Prepare reports & analysis to summarize and forecast expense results.
    • Accountable for production of annual budget, monthly forecast, and multi-year plan - including communication with functional leaders to drive accuracy and accountability.
    • Assist in the evaluation and assessment of expenses against internal and external benchmarks.
    • Contribute to the achievement of business objectives through the accurate and timely identification and resolution of expense issues.
    • Work to streamline any reporting and analysis for effective delivery.
    • Partner with International Finance accounting lead to build basic understanding of the impact of intercompany transactions on actual and budgeted expense results.
    • Establish work objectives and goals for employee(s) and manage performance.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the financial/accounting and business communities across Travelers.

    Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Establish work objectives and goals for employees and manage performance. Typically involved in hiring and compensation decisions.
    • Assist in the design, preparation, evaluation and validation of more complex internal and/or external financial and operating reports, both routine and ad-hoc.
    • Perform and review analysis and interpretation of trends and variances in business performance, interacting with cross functional peers on a frequent basis. Validate analyses.
    • Synthesize and present exhibits, results, observations, recommendations to cross functional peers and management.
    • Accountable for tactical production of financial plan in support of the Business plan and forecast for the organization (annual, ongoing and long term).
    • Apply basic accounting and financial concepts and controls to provide subject matter expertise in the development, implementation or enhancement of financial, operations, and business applications.
    • Identify, use and train others on appropriate tools to obtain, compile and analyze more complex data necessary to support more advanced financial reports and analysis, and provide input on potential tool utilization enhancements.
    • Accountable for tactical production of overall strategic plan including an advanced understanding of impact of competitor, market and industry landscape.
    • Prepare and review external financial statements including, but not limited to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SEC and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles).
    • Review and approve complex financial activities for various lines of business including journal entries and account reconciliations.
    • Perform and review financial controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
    • Support supplier management by providing input to manager in assessing risk, reviewing contracts, and monitoring results.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

    Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

    • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting preferred.
    • Typically 4+ years of related experience.
    • Formal or Informal experience leading others.
    • General knowledge of Financial Analysis concepts, principles and processes.
    • General Knowledge: Possesses sufficient knowledge to perform most work in normal situations.
