Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$97,300.00 - $160,500.00

What Is the Opportunity?

The Claim Technology Analytics Value Stream (AVS) is seeking a Technology Operations Director (Director, Strategic Initiatives). They will lead planning & execution functions with accountability to drive effective execution of departmental projects and initiatives enabling successful achievement of business plans. This leader will be responsible driving various strategic initiatives, financial planning, and operational execution.

What Will You Do?

  • Support Operations and maintain cross-discipline expertise in Strategy, Execution & Agile Practices, Claim Business, Engineering, and Architecture
  • Develop, Support and Execution of assigned Operations strategies and adherence of strategic vision
  • Monitor and report on Value Stream financials including resource and chargeback
  • Develop campaigns to increase adoption of learning and workforce management resources


Incident Management

  • Ongoing understanding of the Travelers analytic technology ecosystem, business, and industry trends
  • Identify and implement or enhance controls to ensure stability (incident reduction and improve resolution times), transparency, and auditability of changes in or impacting the AVS technology ecosystem
  • Understand additional operational excellence capabilities that specific technology advancements enable and drive adoption


Workforce Planning

  • Facilitate Hiring Team and Circle Workforce Planning events each Program Increment (PI)
  • Implement/Partner on automated workforce planning tool solutions
  • Implement/Partner on AVS employee recognition and immersive learning programs
  • Support Scrum Masters and Team Leads on AVS Team Upskilling


Knowledge Management

  • Develop and maintain the Knowledge Management strategy for AVS and approach (SharePoint Online, MS Teams, Confluence etc.)
  • Accountable for currency of operational policy, procedures, and practices documentation
  • Develop and build a Learning culture to ensure continuous learning is expected, rewarded, and recognized
  • Identify industry trends and leverage architecture and engineer roadmaps to ensure learning solutions are available to upskill workforce


Workforce Experience

  • Develop and manage Onboarding Strategy for new hires based on role (Data Engineers, Software Engineer, Scrum Master etc.)
  • Request systems access/onboarding for non-employee resources
  • Ensure managers have resources available and support to onboard new employees


What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • 5 years of project management experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of insurance industry and market dynamics
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Experience working with project-management methodologies and Agile principles
  • Experience in developing strong, trusted partnerships with senior executives and constituent partners
  • Ability to lead and inspire team members to achieve optimal results in a highly collaborative and matrixed organization
  • Systemic thinker with strategic planning expertise, readily sees patterns and connections in a complicated environment
  • Demonstrated ability to put strategic plans into action
  • Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skillset
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding and appreciation for business, business intelligence/analytics, and technology components of program/portfolio management
  • Strategic Thinking, Problem Solving & Decision Making skills and demonstrates advanced analytical skills dealing the issues with less clarity or appear contradictory
  • Broad conceptual understanding of capabilities and direction of technology, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the technology required to support assigned systems and projects
  • Suggests solutions that make sense and are in line with future technology direction
  • Keeps all areas informed of developments affecting their function
  • Demonstrates flexibility, anticipates customer needs, and effectively communicates in a manner consistent with the audience
  • Able to develop solutions by applying accepted processes
  • Able to create new approaches to leverage technology from abstract information

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelors degree
  • 5 years of strategy or project delivery experience
