I’m glad that Gov. Granholm is tackling this issue. I feel this is a form of discrimination because of your credit history and the area in which you live. With auto insurance, your premium should be based only on your driving record. What does that say for the person who has excellent credit but 4 points on their license? It’ll be an abuse of the system for the law-abiding, tax-paying customers. And if you live in a “high-rate”, or high-crime area, why should you be penalized for where you live? Please change the system. Immediately.

Take a look at your current policy and look for your credit discount. If Granholm succeeds will your policies will increase by that amount? Make sure you know the whole story before taking a position. Make sure you look at your own personal policy to see what affect it will have on you.

I was hit by a semi that totally disabled me. Because the insurance company held out so long before they settled, I had to file bankruptcy. Next thing I know, the insurance on my car goes up. So, I feel like I have been hit by the semi twice.

Many people in Michgan are finding themselves out of work. As if that were not bad enough, they are being hit with higher insurance premiums when they can least afford it. All because they may have a lower credit score as a result of economic difficulties. Actually I think insurance companies use this as an excuse to increase profits. Premiums should be based on an individual’s driving record, period!! Please reform this outrageous predatory practice.
