Top 10 U.S. Insurers in Tornado-Stricken States: SNL Financial

The Moore, Oklahoma tornado, which killed 24 people, was the deadliest tornado to touch down during a nearly weeklong outbreak across the U.S. Midwest and South Central regions. The states hardest hit have been Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma, according to SNL Financial.

The devastation began in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area on May 15, with hailstorms and tornadoes. A twister ripped through Granbury, Texas, leveling buildings and leaving at least six people dead. Oklahoma and Kansas then felt the brunt of the severe weather over the next few days, with tornadoes touching down near Shawnee, Okla., and Wichita, Kan. Two people in Oklahoma died during this period.

According to SNL Financial, the top insurer with the most exposure in states hardest hit by tornadoes during this period was State Farm.
