Last Job Cuts at Travelers’ Syracuse, N.Y., Office Scheduled for Sept.

The last phase of previously announced job cuts at The Travelers Companies’ Syracuse, N.Y., office will begin in September.

The company’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice, filed on June 5, shows Travelers Indemnity Company’s Personal Insurance Business Center unit in Syracuse will lay off 69 employees on Sept. 15, 2014. Afterwards, 11 remaining employees at the Personal Insurance Business Center in Syracuse will stay on the payroll until next April to close out the unit.

The overall number of jobs affected at the Syracuse office is 159, which include a variety of job functions, all for the personal lines. Travelers first filed its WARN notice last October, indicating it plans to cut 159 of 226 employees at its Syracuse office. Travelers will still have employees at the Syracuse office supporting business insurance. The layoffs are among 450 company-wide job cuts that Travelers previously announced in July 2013 as part of a plan to save $140 million in operating expenses.
