Allstate does not reveal trade secrets to its agents,—unless as “Consumer Reports” seem to indicate, Allstate considers screwing its policyholders on claims & overcharges them as a trade secret. And, the term “exclusive independent agent is a misnomer.They are “captive” agents and about independent as a newborn baby.
Like the contract or not, if what Allstate says is factual the guy broke his contract. He agreed not to compete with Allstate, but went on to set up a competing agency at the same location then lied about what it did.
Trade secrets = customer contact information.
1 yr / 1 mile is very generous for a non-compete. Don’t sign the contract if you don’t like it! Simple as that.
