The Society of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters elected new officers and governors. They are: President Betsey L. Brewer, senior vice president of The Rule Co. in Pasadena, Calif. President-Elect James L. Britt, managing director of Marsh USA Inc. in Charlotte, N.C. Vice President Marvin Kelly, executive director of Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association in Austin. Secretary/Treasurer Larry L. Klein, vice president of pricing for the Alternative Solutions-Group Captives Business Unit of Zurich North America in Schaumburg, Ill. Immediate Past President Millicent W. Workman, research analyst for International Risk Management Institute Inc. in Dallas.

O’Donnell, administrative vice president and director of corporate insurance and risk for M&T Bank in Buffalo, N.Y.; Patrick W. Reilly, assistant vice president-casualty broker for International Placement Services Inc. in St. Louis; Sharon M. Romano, vice president and co-founder of Demotech Inc., in Columbus, Ohio; Eli E. Shupe Jr., underwriting director in the Commercial Lines Department of The Cincinnati Insurance Companies in Fairfield, Ohio; Rodney K. Stoffels, commercial lines associate manager for Harleysville Insurance in Edina, Minn.; Jane M. Wahl, process manager for State Farm Insurance Cos. in Jacksonville, Fla.; Daniel L. Walker, chief claims officer for Canal Insurance Co. in Greenville, S.C.; Anthony L. Cabot, country manager for XL Insurance in Milan, Italy; William C. Global insurance broker Willis Group Holdings made management promotions in its North American leadership team following the appointment of Don Bailey as CEO of Willis North America. Tom Ealy is chief operating officer for Willis North America; Joe Gunn is executive vice president and national partner, North American Client Development; and Eric Joost is client advocacy leader in North America.

Swett & Crawford appointed Kyle Chapman as vice president and director of business development. Chapman will also assist Terri Snell, Swett’s chief administrative officer in identifying operational efficiencies throughout the company’s network of 37 offices.

Swett & Crawford also added four new brokers. Tae Yoon joins the Woodland Hills office as a property and casualty broker. Mark Travers comes to the New York office from Kornreich-NIA Group. Lawrence J. Collura, heads for the Phoenix office as a casualty broker. Mary McCool, an insurance industry veteran with both wholesale and retail brokerage experience is joining the Boise, Idaho, office.

Strategic Independent Agents Alliance appointed William J. Fahy executive vice president for programs and specialty markets.

Swiss Re appointed Roger W. Ferguson Jr. as head of financial services and a member of Swiss Re’s executive committee. Ferguson joined Swiss Re from the U.S. Federal Reserve Board as chairman of Swiss Re America Holding in June 2006, and will continue in that role. He also assumes overall responsibility for the capital management and advisory unit. He will also oversee credit risk underwriting unit.

Bermuda-based CastlePoint Holdings Ltd. appointed Gregory T. Doyle president of CastlePoint Holdings and CEO of CastlePoint Reinsurance Co. Ltd. He will also serve as a director of CastlePoint Re, while continuing to serve as a director of CastlePoint Holdings. The change becomes effective Nov. 1.

Also Michael H. Lee, currently chairman, CEO and president of CastlePoint Holdings, will continue in that position.

Mark Dale has been appointed president and director of CastlePoint Management Corp. As the president, Dale will oversee the company’s U.S. primary insurance operation that provides programs and risk sharing solutions to program underwriting agents and insurance companies.

Bermuda-based White Mountains Re Group Ltd., the reinsurance unit of the White Mountains Insurance Group, named C. Russell Fletcher III president and CEO of White Mountains Re Underwriting Services Ltd., the group’s Bermuda-based underwriting advisory company, subject to the approval of Bermuda’s immigration authorities.

Casey Hamlin was named chairman of Colemont Insurance Brokers for Southern California. Hamlin will be responsible for growing the West Coast and Southwest operations. Andy Clark will replace Hamlin as president.

BISYS Commercial Insurance Services named John Egan senior underwriter for its trucking division in San Diego, supporting the states of Arizona, California and Nevada. Egan has more than 20 years of industry experience.

The Jacobson Group opened an office in Los Angeles/Orange County in Irvine, Calif. Ashley Urdangen will head the office.

Mercator Risk Services appointed David Novak senior vice president of its West Coast Property Practice, to be based in San Francisco. Additionally, Kevin Oh will join the West Coast practice. Dennis Ransdell, vice president, will work with Novak to grow property business on the West Coast.

Yates & Associates, Santa Ana, Calif., appointed Lani Vo an underwriter/broker. Vo will be responsible for new business development and will specialize in contract property and casualty business. Vo began her insurance career in 1984 with Reliance Insurance Co.

Cheri Brandt was promoted to manager for State Compensation Insurance Funds Customer Service Center. Brandt started her State Fund career in 1990 as a claims adjuster for the San Jose office. She was recognized for outstanding performance in 1999, when she earned the “President’s Award for Corporate Excellence.”
