The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas appointed P. Scott Hubacek to the newly created position of IIAT Member Services Ambassador. Hubacek will be responsible for recruiting new members and for helping new and existing members increase use of programs and services.

Hubacek has sales experience within the independent agency system. He has held the title of operations director for several independent agencies, has been an instructor for the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, and has participated on both state and national insurance industry committees.

McQueary Henry Bowles Troy L.L.P. announced that Jim Moss has joined its Dallas office as vice president in the property and casualty production group. Moss is a veteran in the insurance industry, bringing 40 years of experience. Prior to joining MHBT, Moss served leading organizations such as Aon Corp. and Alexander and Alexander Services Inc. His international experience includes transactions in the London, European RE Insurance and Bermuda markets.

Dallas-based PWIB Texas recently announced the promotions of Brett Kilburn and Travis Reynolds.
Kilburn, who has been with PWIB Texas since 2004, was named vice president. She previously served as assistant vice president. Kilburn has 14 years of experience in the field and has served in similar positions with other MGA/brokerage organizations.

Reynolds, who joined the firm in 2004 as associate broker, was promoted to broker/underwriter. He was previously associated with an online brokerage firm.

Larry Caudill joined Colemont Insurance Brokers-Texas as marketing manager. Caudill will work to strengthen existing agent partnerships and foster new business relationships.

Caudill has nearly 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. Most recently, Caudill worked in commercial lines marketing concentrating on non-subscription accounts. Previously he spent six years managing commercial lines underwriting, and has done marketing for a large national carrier. He worked for 11 years in Casualty Underwriting at Highlands Insurance Co.

Higginbotham & Associates added Account Executive Cynthia Brown to its Austin, Texas, office. Brown provides central Texas employer groups with access to the Fort Worth-based agency’s health insurance carriers and administrative service. Brown began her employee benefits career at Insurors of Texas, where she was employed for 14 years. She was most recently a principal at Fidelity Benefits & Insurance Services.

Members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners elected 2007 officers during the group’s winter meeting in San Antonio.

Alabama Insurance Commissioner Walter Bell was named president, Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger was chosen as president-elect, New Hampshire Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny was elected vice president and West Virginia Insurance Commissioner Jane Cline was elected secretary-treasurer.

Bell became Alabama insurance commissioner in January 2003. He began his insurance career as a financial professional with The MONY Group in 1983. He served as their national director of emerging markets from 1996 until 1999, at which time he became vice president of corporate diversity in New York City, leading diversity marketing and recruiting initiatives until his retirement in 2002.

Bell’s career also includes a stint in banking and with the Urban League in Indianapolis.

Praeger was elected Kansas’ 24th commissioner in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006. She previously served three terms in the Kansas Senate and one term in the Kansas House of Representatives. She also has served as mayor of Lawrence, Kan., and was a member of the Lawrence City Commission.

Sevigny was appointed as New Hampshire insurance commissioner in 2003. Prior to becoming commissioner, Sevigny held the position of assistant commissioner and he also worked in the insurance industry at Travelers Insurance for more than 30 years in a variety of technical and management positions.

Cline was named West Virginia insurance commissioner in January 2001. Prior to her appointment, Cline operated a government consulting firm, Jane L. Cline & Associates. From 1989 to 1997, she served as commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles. Prior to her DMV appointment, Cline served as deputy commissioner for the West Virginia Division of Highways.

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies named Nancy Grover as its new media relations director. Grover, who will be based in NAMIC’s Washington, D.C., office, will promote the positions of the organization and the member companies it serves to key target audiences.

Grover has been a journalist in the broadcasting and publishing fields for two decades, serving most recently as managing editor for a Florida-based publishing company where she wrote a newsletter devoted to workers’ compensation, as well as articles for Risk and Insurance magazine. She was an account representative for MetLife.

Hull & Company Inc. named Linda Leos as marketing director for the company’s Dallas office.

Prior to joining Hull & Company, Leos was executive director for one of the largest IIA associations, the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas. She has also held roles of vice president of marketing and audit examiner.

Leos began her career in insurance in 1988 with American States Insurance Companies. She has been active in industry associations and held various offices to include president and regional director for the Dallas Association of Insurance Professionals and the Federation of Insurance Women of Texas.
